I think this thread is showing why we should keep politics out of football. I don't actually care whether Stop the Boats is racist or not, it's moot. Banners should not be displayed at games period. As for the pics taken away from the ground. I don't like that either.

Geniuinely enjoyed reading this thread full of well articulated, reasoned arguments put towards an 'organisation' which has a closed mindset to what they actual problems are in this country. Does Racism exist? yes. do any of us want it? No - at least not in a hateful or antagonistic context.

couple of things from me;
"Stop the boats" isn't racist, it's a political slogan used to represent the illegal entry of Refugees/migrants etc into our country.

"Refugees Not Welcome", however, is at worst racist and at best badly worded (a refugee can be White/Caucasian, can they not?, but I think it's probably safe to assume that it was not in the thinking of the sticker-maker). More importantly, a Refugee can be a legal and welcome member of society, if they arrived in the country under the current law. If Racism was not the intention, it fails to convey this distinction.

Even if everything you say is correct (and I'm not ruling that out) can you not appreciate that, at the same time, a reasonable person might see effective control over inward migration as important?
 
Maybe the real problem here is politics in football. Stop the boats isint racist but it is politics. And so is having Palestinian flags flown at the stadium.

I would get behind "Palace fans against politics in football" but that would have to cover everything not just what you agree or disagree with.

Yes there is a valid argument for control of immigration. People arriving on small boats are still subject to that control - they apply for asylum as soon as the land and are then processed by immigration authorities. This is the earliest opportunity anyone seeking asylum can apply because there are no facilities to apply outside the UK. Why is this? It seems obvious that if the UK should set up facilities to apply and be assessed while outside the UK this would address the problem properly - any who failed the asylum process would still be outside the UK so no need to try to deport them. So why has no government done this? Maybe because the image of people arriving in small boats is useful to distract us all from what is really going on?

OK, but why would people saying 'stop the boats' not also be saying, or at least not objecting, to the creation of a process by which asylum may be applied for from overseas? Why can't they hold much the same views as you on that topic? Why must they just be simple-minded pawns whipped into a frenzy by sinister puppet masters?

I don't think the people of Britain need anyone to tell them how dire this country has become and point them in the direction of one of the key reasons.

Yours is the kind of reverse logic that the left thrives on. If there were no issues, then no amount of wealthy could create them or convince people they existed if they didn't. That is just self serving twaddle.

All political sides have sponsors. All political sides use issues for votes.

Why do you want to take in 'refugees'? Why?

Why are you so concerned about them and seemingly unconcerned about the effect it has on the people who were born and bred here?

Yes there is a limit of course but 1) the number arriving in small boats is tiny in relation to our economy - it’s insignificant. 2) no one is allowed to work while an asylum application is being assessed. Once their application is approved they are here legally.

If they fail the assessment then they will need to be deported legally which is where the problems start and why we need safe routes that allow asylum application from outside the UK.

Isn't it obvious that we need to amend our policy now to head off a future nightmare? Just how many is too many?
It's not just boat people. The last decade has seen an unsustainable number of immigrants arriving here. The sheer numbers alone are a problem.

And again, this has absolutely nothing to do with race. The racial profile of a migrant is only significant in relation to culture and its compatibility with ours. It has zero to do with physical characteristics.

Immigration, net migration and small boat numbers are all falling. Net migration is down 48% and immigration. As a whole is down 20% in the 12 months to May 2026.
