A few internet reports linking us a few other prem clubs to Shea Charles.

22yo Southampton DM. Came up through the City academy. Looks like a good ball winner and pretty tidy technically too.

With Kamada only renewing for a year, Wharton on lots of club's radars and Lerma/Hughes getting on a bit, I'd be really keen that we start to bed someone this year.

But do we have the money?

Russell Martin, then Southampton manager, signed him for £15 Million.

Definitely has the profile and price of a player that I feel more comfortable with us spending money on i.e good age, bags of potential, has decent experience within English football. From what I've seen I like and think he'd be a good fit for us as he adds something different to what we have.

I recall seeing him a few times on tv last season.
In style he reminded me a bit of Bellingham's brother who we were strongly linked with a year or so ago.
We need more athleticism and 'legs' in midfield so he would tick that box , and he has potential to develop too.

As a side note I would like to see one or two of our own youngsters coming through.
I feel that JRS and Ozoh may well move on in the summer and another few youngsters have already moved on.
I'm no expert on our emerging players, but I did like the brief cameos I saw from Drakes Thomas last season.
He looked confident in possession and didn't treat the ball like a hot potato.

and just signed his first (long term) contract with us!!

I saw articles this morning quoting something like £30m !!!!!

A championship player (albeit a good one) who has never played in the PL.

I can only think an inflated price, would be offset by an inflated for Devenny if he goes in the other direction.

Yep no way.

Rightly or wrongly I compare everyone to Wharton. 2 half seasons in the Championship and straight into a struggling Prem team at 19 (?). Shea is clearly not that level.

I still think he's worth a look, but it was slightly alarming that after playing 32 games for Southampton in their promotion season, they loaned him back to champs in their Prem season.

Granted he would have only been 20, but, see above, Wharton was ready at that age.

If he joins us and has 6 good games the top clubs will be on to his agent to find out the terms of his release clause.
It's all the rage these days.
