Oscar Mingueza

Never heard of him!
He was being paid €19k a week so he will get a decent uplift as a free agent.
At 27 he isn’t involved in the national team. While he could be a decent squad addition he ain’t a replacement for Lacroix!!
Quite a difficult national team to get into (and he has a few caps).

Think of English defenders not selected for England (including one of our own).

Lacroix is only a bench warmer for France...

Great signing.

Had a few Barca mates who said he never did much for them, but really kicked on at Celta and looks the real deal. Can imagine there would have been a lot of interest so certainly feels like a a bit of a coup.

May also know Riad.

It certainly feels like we are starting to use the free transfer market well. Using it to bring some experience in, and spending on kids with a high potential.

Might not be a Lacroix replacement....but if we get a big offer in for him, we've already got another senior body in the building

Still feels like a two tier system as teams like us scratch for good deals whereas the big boys spend 40m and upwards on all their players.
Hopefully this is a good acquisition.

As a regular for his previous club, he'll be expecting regular game time with us and I'm hoping that if he's replacing someone it will be Munoz rather than Lacroix. As much as I have loved watching Munoz over the last two and a half years, I think Lacroix is the more important player for us and, as I posted earlier on this thread, as Munoz is 30, now is the time to get decent money for him after his World Cup exploits. Obviously, I hope Mingueza isn't a replacement for any of our players but someone who will strengthen our options in what will, hopefully, be a very busy campaign (all the way to Frankfurt).

Apparently he can play anywhere across the back 4 or 5 so will get plenty of game time without us selling any of our defenders with the number of fixtures, injuries and suspensions.

Have family who are Barca fans, said he was bit of a weak defender when he played for them but that he's changed and become quite good going forward since moving the Celta. Stats would back that up as he has created a lot of chances since that move and has a decent amount of goal contributions over the last 3 years. For the last couple of seasons Celta have been playing with 5 at the back also, with Mingueza mostly playing RB/RWB but also playing on the left regularly. The type of versatility that could really be useful, let's hope he's actually decent on the pitch.

Watched the "first interview" and was very impressed! Great English and already knows Pino and JSL. So, settling in should be less of a challenge.

Hopefully, a real coup for the recruitment team!

Finding a song for him is going to be the next challenge.
Hopefully as good as the Kamada song which is one of the best we’ve ever come up with. In fact I can’t stop singing it !
