Really only one manager that's relevant to this discussion isn't it? And obviously I'm no expert but nobody in the game is infallible either and I'm certainly not the only fan you'll find who might disagree with their club's former or current manager on one or more things.

Further to that point - end of FA Cup Year, he had a spell where he was getting enough time to show himself, and he was actually delivering in those performances. It also happened to be, no coincidence, the first good spell of fitness in quite a while. The latter does tend to help the former.

Following season (season just gone), he was outcast. So, it is reasonable to suggest that wasn't really aligned with his performance in the run up. Can you really say he wouldn't have done better than Johnson who was allowed much more of a shot (due to price tag) and did absolutely nothing.

I'm not the only person to point it out.

Johnson may not have scored , he played I think 3 games in munoz position , and as someone who has played in that position he done well , so dont just judge by his goal scoring ,

there is a big difference between them two in style,s of play also when was the last time nketiah scored double figures , he has only scored 14 goals total were in top tier johnson has 21 with his last season at spurs being his best , and thats without championship goals for forest , I have more faith in johnson getting it right than nketiah

Glasner might lure Johnson to his 'spiritual home', he was popular at the club and hails from West Bridgford !
Imagine the scenario - Johnson returns to Selhurst Park with Glasner and scores the winner for Nottm Forest !!!!

if the first happens, the second is an almost forgone conclusion, given our history with ex-players.

Langley, Jones, Aylott and Mahoney all used to work very hard while achieving precisely nothing.
We also had Steve Perrin, another hard worker who didn't know where the goal was.
Fortunately Venables found another position for him shunting up and down the right side and he was quietly effective in the role.
We also had talented forwards like Elwiss and Mabbutt, but sadly their careers were blighted by injury.
 
Some “great” names mentioned in this thread and part of Palace folklore. They were not very good but we cheered them on every week because they were Palace players who generally did their best.

As for Mateta the World Cup has shown me that the big man at number 9 is now the plan B option when everything has failed. Having a Sarr type player in that position has been adopted by most countries.

I don’t want to deride what JP has done but my sense is it’s in the past and only under Glasner. I believe we should take the money and move on.

I think he scored a lot of goals for Sheff Wednesday if I remember right, so I wasn’t that gutted we signed him, but clearly his best days were behind him when he pulled on a palace shirt
