Sarr must surely be our starting centre forward next season.

Been thinking that most of last season too. Our only consistent and genuine goal threat. But, if we got 19 from him on the right - perhaps not. Because none of the others are going to weigh in there and our centre forward will score maybe 9 or ten kind of thing. What we could actually do with is some goals from others. Johnson, Pino et al.

Strange if they really did have that attitude. They had a good chance of topping the group, and could've been facing Paraguay in the next round instead of Brazil.

Mind you, Brazil struggled at times in the Japan game. Not the Brazil of old.

I have heard different reports about whether Sage plays with a back 3, 4, or 5, or varies it up from game to game. I am a big believer in the strengths of the players dictating the system, not the other way around. When it comes to our full backs, I have always felt that Mitchell better suits an old-school back 4, but that Munoz better suits the wing-back system.

That creates a bit of a quandary. I would have said that, as modest as his attacking abilities are, Mitchell is probably a better wing-back than Munoz is an old-school full back. On that basis, probably best to stick with a back 3/5.

He's just spent a full season playing the same shape as us at Lens. Prior to that at Lyon it was one of a few faves in his arsenal.

I would expect him only to tinker, not to overhaul.

I agree with you in what, I suppose may seem the obvious point but I think it's a good one, that 19 or so goals from Sarr along with half that many from Larsen or Nketiah or whoever is better overall than just 19 from Sarr.

My concern is that Sarr got goals last year because he was playing centrally most of the time as a sort of inside right, rather than out wide. If Sage switches system to play with wide attackers, something many of us think he should do to get more out of Johnson in particular, and perhaps Pino too, that might mean Sarr has to go wide. From there he would be less of a goal threat. Or, he would have to play centre forward instead of Larsen/Nketiah.

The big factor for me is that not only does Sarr score regularly, he has a fantastic work rate and energy. His goal for Senegal last night shows how dangerous he is on the direct break, even if fed with little more than a simple long ball. We are likely to serve up a good few of those when under pressure, and to have a forward who can make something for himself out of very little is likely to be very useful to use. Larsen and Nketiah both need chances made for them, to some degree anyway. Sarr seems more able to fend for himself. That allows the rest of the team to defend more when required.

I can see their point though. He goes down before the keeper does anything.

Yeah, I would put them about the same level as us too right now! Obviously Paraguay are not close to that level though.
