Even Guehi is not really world class. At Palace, Lacroix was faster, Andersen a better long passer and Richards a way better defensive header of the ball.
He gave the ball away that led to the early chance against Panama. If we play Mexico, England's defence will be sorely tested

Kane is never going to be dropped, his goal record speaks for its self. Its Saka that needs to go, a one trick pony, the pull back onto his left foot, Panama were lined up waiting for it, he rarely goes to the byline and cross.
With Englands dysfunctional defence, they aren't going past the quarter finals.

i doubt it and the micks should have one team like rugby, not two chances.

The micks won 't get a group of 4 Gibraltars, but at least in Euro's they can take their caravans.

Agree with others that I worry about our defence against a top side, but I think we'll be in the mix.

Interesting to see what he does with the midfield for the DRC game - I thought Bellingham made a real difference playing deeper, but I can't see any way Rice loses his spot permanently. Anderson is performing well and would also be very harsh to drop him.

My main concern is that our system seems to be geared towards getting our wingers into 1v1 positions in dangerous areas, but none of the 4 wingers look to be in great form.
 
Disjointed side, no real tactics, the tactics they are using are inapproriate with personnel they have employed. We don't seem to understand the game we're playing most of the time. Hot headed with bad choices and decisions all over the pitch. Bad technique and communication turning simple tasks to seemingly impossible hurdles.
Oh, this is the World Cup Thread. Supposed to post this on the Cricket thread. oh well, still works.

Fair enough, this has been going on a while. Harry Kane needs to be in the box but he comes deep too often. Every pundit I've ever seen points this out and has done for years. It doesn't change.

Pundits talk s*** and know alarmingly little about what they're watching.

The plan in this tournament is clearly for Kane to pull deep and to have proper runners going beyond him - this is why Tuchel has prioritised the likes of Gordon and Madueke over the likes of Palmer and Foden.

It's a system which has worked very successfully for Kane at Bayern.

Under Southgate we had Kane pulling deep, without the runners beyond, which obviously leads to a rather blunt attack!

Kane has been dropping deep for years so it seems more of trait than a plan. I was warmly surprised when he met one cross eventually. Albeit from a few yards away.
Kane is one of those players who just won't stay up front. The wingers at Bayern are of course going to be beyond him. Because they're much better at dribbling and much faster than him.
It's a testament to how good a striker he is with his distinct lack of pace.
You're giving far too much credit to Tuchel to make out that's some kind of a plan.
Again, Madueke, Gordon, Bellingham, Rashford will run beyond Kane because they're twice as quick as him. If he stayed up front, then he wouldn't need to make up the ground that he simply can't, due to their pace.
I failed to see much of a plan at all. I'd have suggested Tuchel said "go out and enjoy yourselves" First half. Half time, "that was f***ing rubbish". That's what it looked like and is a common theme amongst fans, journalists and the dreaded only twenty years a footballer, pundits.
In Tuchel we trust. Not really.

Yes, that's Kane's game - as you highlight, he doesn't have the pace to go beyond defences, but he does have an incredible passing range which can help in build-up.

A lesser manager, like Southgate, struggled to build a system that benefitted from this trait.
Tuchel, a much better manager, has identified it and built towards it.

Again, it is clearly a plan, hence the prioritisation of 'runners' in building the squad.

I don't think anyone would argue that Gordon and Madueke are England's two best wingers, and yet they started our opener... that doesn't happen by accident.
