It wasn't really aimed specifically at you.....it's a general point.
Mahmood's policies aren't going to change the underlying trend even a little bit.....but talking tough on immigration while still travelling towards the same replacement has been the direction of travel all my life and before it. But Mahmood knows the game and if the tough talk can reduce that nagging question in enough moderates for a few more years then she's done her job......She's only there as a slop to moderates or independents who might incline to vote right
The left couldn't give a flying fig about reducing immigration into the country. They want it even more than the Conservatives did. They will look to slow it down a bit purely for political reasons.
For the Conservatives it was mostly economic to suppress wages and help housing and business lobbies (even though that short termism was stupid), for the left its for a whole lot more than that.
Enoch Powell spoke about this kind of thing that politicians and peers would say to him in private......'I'll be dead before it gets really bad'......expediency and that white non tribalism that ensures that we become the dodo.
