Mateta to AC Milan?

But the problem this season was not having the depth when it came to the busy part of the season - we should learn from that and if we already have the three signed up then we should juggle the books to make it work. They are all reasonable mid-table prem players and changing things is expensive once you take into account all the leakage due to agents commissions etc - bit like paying stamp duty and estate agents when you move house in South London.
Perhaps, but of course the least financially effective approach is to keep Mateta then lose him on a free in 12 months.

Yeah, Larsen was clearly supposed to be the replacement for Mateta. I suppose it's possible for palace to have both on the books, and Nketiah too, but seems like a bit of a luxury to have three for one spot, especially once we are out of Europe.
We need three strikers.

As we've seen, JP can't last 90 mins at full throttle. I suspect that's the case for most lone strikers playing in a high pressing team. At some point a striker will get injured, suspended or need a rest. We will potentially have another 60 games next season.

If we sell JP, we'll need a replacement and I very much doubt we'll find one of JP's quality. It very rare to get a consistent 10+ goal per season per striker unless you're one of the big clubs. We should offer him a bumper contract extension - which he has earned - and reassess in a years time.

Unfortunately, if he doesn't sign, we'll need to sell him this window.

So can we expect declarations of his unwavering love and devotion to all things Selhurst? I hope he does stay but also hope he doesn't try to mug everyone off with that.
He will be 30 in January so either he goes this window for a decent amount or he extends his contract for a couple of years. I don't want him walking for free next Summer or find ourselves having to accept a derisory offer in January as we had to with Guehi.

Sure but can we get a good replacement for the fee he'd attract? Can't explain this but it's not so much what he does as the way he does it - he just feels like a Palace player.

Mateta has to be sold, no new contract, get as much as you can, and move on.

Agreed. Unfortunately it appears as though he is not first choice for many clubs transfer targets. If that is the case I can see him leaving late on when desperation sets in and a club can't land it's main target.

This will do us no favours.
