Lacroix

Ironically, to become a destination club to attract the standout players, we need to become bigger and better all round, which means selling the standout players to fund a stronger squad, stadium etc.

So whilst we would be an AWESSOME team if we had retained Olise, Eze, Guehi etc. these were necessary sacrifices to inch forward as a team and club

It feels we are on the right track, demonstrated by winning trophies and being in Europe - just need to push on for a comfortable top half table home now!

I think this will be a pivotal season with a new manager, and seeing who we retain (Wharton? Munoz? Lacroix? etc.) and how the new signings perform (JSL, Pinot, Brendan etc.)

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out if Parish plays hardball. If Parish decides he's worth, say, £75m to us, would Chelsea pay it? Spuds just paid £50m+ for van Hecke from Brighton, who only had 1-year left on his deal. If Chelsea want a player with PL and European experience, at their prime, who can slot straight in, who else is available?

I would be very concerned if we lost Lacroix, Kamada, and JP this summer, as that is an entire spine of a team. Having said that, I actually think it would be harder to replace JP than Lacroix.

loyalty is only for fans, not for players, Lacroix wants as big a weekly wage as possible, along with the rest of our players, those on 50/70k a week want 150+ a week, if they can get it, these players are not Palace fans, Muñoz, Lacroix, Mateta and Sarr can get that amount, why wouldn't they want to leave for over double their salary, we cant afford, or not able to pay that amount.

He still has plenty of time on his contract, we need to keep him. I don't buy this "If a player wants to leave, there is nothing a club can do" argument. We can hold on to players, unless they have a release clause.

If its silly money and only then if we have a replacement, then he can go if he wants.

The other thing is, Chelsea are sh!te at the moment, same as Spurs, fair enough, they both have decent new managers and Alonso will attract top players but no Europe for Chelsea.

We have also shown that being at Palace is not a block for getting into a top national side. The amount of former and current Palace players at the World Cup is ridiculous. I would love to see the stats for which team has the most players at the WC that have played for us compared to other clubs.

We need a good domestic season this year, definitely a top ten finish and hopefully more European football. To do that we cannot sell ALL our best.

We need to play hard ball in terms of transfers if we are going to improve. We can do it and to be fair, as a club we have not done too bad in this regard, IMHO.

Another thing is we have a new boss at the helm, what would be the point of him coming if we sell our best from under him before we even kick a ball.

I say again, keep him unless there's a clause or very silly money. I would have thought that was obvious.....

I agree with your analysis.
Nonetheless, when Zaha was at Palace Everton offered to double his salary.
I recall Hodgson, manager at the time, being asked what the attraction was for Zaha moving from Palace to Everton.
He replied concisely, ' Money.'

However, Parish held his nerve and kept Zaha to his contract.
Zaha had a bit of a strop, but settled back down again.

We don't have to sell when a club bids, even if the move appeals to the player.
It's rare for players to actually down tools.

Signing a winning manager and then selling our best players unnecessarily seems bonkers to me.

Lacroix is one of the best defenders in Europe. How do you replace him?

He is contracted till 2029. There is no way I would sell him this season.

I would, but not for any of the figures I'm hearing. 85-95 mil, why not?
Why?
It's absurd to sell quality players if you claim to have ambition. Of course, you have to allow players to move on eventually, but not with 3 years left on their contract.

losing Lacroix would be a massive blow, especially as Chelsea aren't even in Europe next season, however, the reality is if a player wants to leave it is very difficult to keep them.

Lacroix and Wharton are key players for us and both on lengthy contracts (until June 2029) so unless we get silly offers i would play hard ball and keep them both for one more year.

As with Eze and Olise an improved contract with a release clause might keep both happy. Obviously as per Guehi there is no guarantee they will sign

With big, big money you can buy replacements. Lacroix was pretty unknown when we bought him. There are others out there who will leave us with 50mil change.
I don't want Lacroix to leave at all but I'd sell for 90 mil if he wants to go.

I'd want a replacement in place.

If I was selling players, I'd offload Strand Larsen, Nketiah and Johnson. None of them are good enough. I presume Mateta is still going. They would raise a few quid.

It's the years old tactic of unsettling a player to instigate a move. It happened years ago when Geoff Thomas rumours of Blackburn interest circulated, he was never the same player after that and got his move.

Thats fine if we do a good job of replacing him, as we did replacing Andersen with LaCroix, but that’s not always the case

I'd understand it if it was Real Madrid or Liverpool, but f***ing Chelsea?

A club our size has difficulty holding onto its best players, they get tempted with more money, which we cant afford and they want to go. There is no loyalty, they are all just journeyman footballers wanting the best for themselves, its not a crime.

I will be sad to see Lacroix go if he does. I'm afraid it is the nature of the game and although we may not like to system it is the system the club operates in. It is a business whether we like it or not and has to operate as such. people lambasted us for Guehi going for such a low fee due to his contact being close to ending, and yet if we sell Lacroix when there is plenty of time on his contract for a higher fee then they will also bemoan it.

It has to be a massive fee. Massive. Unless there's a clause we don't know.
