World cup 2026

England game.

First half terrible Gordon still rubbish get him off. No creativity in the midfield and Ayew showing up the England players with his shitaboutery.

Let's hope the second half is better.

I can say with some certainty that within the US Fox coverage that Crystal Palace and our players get more plaudits and mentions than any other PL team.

The FA Cup and conference final wins are constantly heralded as Richards, Kamada, Sarr, Pino, Riad and our Colombian duo make meaningful contributions at this World Cup.

There is another thread on the importance of our global brand, but our upwards trajectory is undeniable.

i think we should cut them some slack, the game was played at 4pm there time in extreme heat the jocks played at 9 pm and they said the heat was to much ,and as for rooney when he joined the bbc they gave him a make over,( whats the saying[ you can not polish a **** 🙂

Our logo is an Eagle, our colours are red white and blue. With Chris Richards on the field......

WE should be selling a ton of merchandise to the americans. And with a foothold in London, us getting US Tourists attending our stadium. I mean, who the hell wants to go to a kip like Villa ?

I'm shocked Tuchel leaves his creative players at home and guess what we lack creativity.

So what are the tactics:

Right lads, walking pace only "sideways, sideways sideways then backwards".

It was crying out for Wharton to recycle the ball quickly in midfield.

😡

Because with him in the Palace side, we're great at Breaking down teams sitting deep.

Too many times we turned down an option to pass forward or cross, instead choosing to turn back and pass back to the defence; The small amount of runs being made ignored by the player on the ball (*Wharton actually could have improved this, as he has the balls to attempt them). The lack of these passes and crosses means attackers don't expect them to happen, so they make less of the runs.
Not helped by our players taking too many touches allowing Ghana time to organise.

You just need to look at the French to see when Olise is on the ball, MBappe/Dembele immediately looks for a run, and Olise's first thought is often, 'How can I get it to them'.

Madueke and Gordon was the main culprits last night. It's no coincedence that our best chances came when they were replaced with Saka and Rashford (and Rogers for that matter). Rogers provided drive from the midfield, and we actually started to cross the ball. Our attackers knew to be in and around the box for a cross or rebound.

and tbf, we should have lost that game after VAR inexplicably ignored the Konsa challenge at the end.

Anderson tried to do that but Ghana had done their homework on him. Wharton would not have fared any better.

It was a group game, not knockout. Take the point, beat Panama, finish top on goal difference.

Lest I remind, 4 tournaments in a row now, 2nd group game = 0-0. In those tournaments we finished 4th, RU, QF, RU. Last night wasn't a surprise. In fact, it is now almost a brand.

The biggest disappointment was Rice picking up a booking.

Our counters were ponderous and allowed the Ghanaian defence to set. I suspect we were playing the hot humid elements.

We were very lucky on that pen.

Barely mentioned here, of course.

It was 20C and raining at kick off and every pundit saying it was perfect conditions for England. So I guess that is humid, but it wasn't hot.

I agree it was a nailed on penalty for Ghana. And Pickford perhaps lucky when he had his mad moment and made contact with the Ghana attacker outside the box.

Still can't believe that Kane missed the only chance so badly.

Since England had no idea or ability to break the low block I do wonder whether putting on Ivan Toney and lumping the ball to him (into the mixer) and looking for lucky knock downs would have been more effective even if it is an anathema to modern football tactics. It couldn't have been less effective.

Isn't Toney is better suited to having space behind, rather than receiving with back to goal? not sure it was the game for him, last night. More about the supply than the finishers, for me.

The new Scottish National Anthem.

"Bye bye Scotland you are leaving, we are sad to see you go (not)"

Comfortable win for Brazil don't know if the Scots will fluke their way through in 3rd place.

And now we have got Rooney telling us about the tactical flaws . Jesus is that the best the BBC can do ?

What he should be saying is that there is no creativity in midfield , just boring sideways passing robots
Indeed, the tactical genius that is Wayne Rooney, the man who got sacked by DC United, Brum and Plymouth

There is a certain wry amusement to the fact that despite all the advanced analytics and specialist tactical advisers the supposed best players available from the best league in the world can't find a way to beat a team who set up to defend.
Then all the pundits shrug and explain how difficult it is to get past these fiendish tactics.

Watching England last night brought back recent memories of a few of our European league games against second rate teams that played a deep defence - like Ghana - a team happy to get a draw.
Croatia tried to win and gave us space. Like Palace - England play better against such teams !
There the similarity probably ends !
