How good are Crystal Palace?

Turns out, we're massive...

I'm on holiday with the missus in Ibiza currently, went to get some frozen yogurt and stopped to watch the USA game the other day. Someone asked us if we're American, my wife said no but we want to see how Chris Richards is doing. He asked if we're Palace fans and then proceeded to congratulate us on the Europa Conference League win, tell us he's been following us since we had Zaha, Olise and Eze in the team and that we've got some quality players.

Then, naturally, as he's Spanish, asked how Pino is getting on and said he will come good once he's settled.

You’re right, we are massive now!! I was on holiday recently in Spain and a young Spanish lad who was selling jet ski hire saw my palace tattoo, he said “ah Olise!!” “Will he come to Madrid?” I said I hope so because we get 20 million because of the sell on clause, but I’m not sure he understood about the sell in clause 🤣

We’re definitely massive now, because back in the 80’s, I never got Spanish people asking me about Trevor Aylott or Tony Mahoney🤣🤣

That is not technically correct in market value terms, whilst we are hopefully an established mid-tier EPL club, we cannot be compared with the financial power of the EPL big six. According to transfer market data we sit firmly in the middle of the pack with a squad that is valued at about half the amount of the Man City (Euros1.32 billion versus 553mil), we are of course in value terms comparable to sides like Avilla and BH&HA and sit about 11th in EPL table for squad value.

Had the same just before covid in New York. Got talking to a street trader and when he heard the voice asked what English football club i supported. I said you've probably not heard of us - he immediately recalled Townsend and his wonder goal v Man City. Did it win goal of the season?

In Dublin (not last Dec - a few years before) a taxi driver says he knew a Palace footballer from his school days. None other than Trevor Aylott.

I had to explain he wasn't rated and the 'son of Aylott' chant can still occasionally be heard.

No, Twats of the Day gave it to Kompany, even though it was possibly the best Premier League goal of all time!

I suppose he is a bit of a palace legend, whenever there’s a debate about bad donkey strikers we’ve had over the years, his name usually gets mentioned🤣

Unbelievable that wasn’t it!! Gary Neville on Sky commentary shouting “where do you want your statue Vincent kompany??”
I’m assuming when our new stand gets built there will be a statue of Andros Townsend outside 🤣

Indeed - it even got sung to the man himself when he returned to SE25 as an opponent and blasted a very presentable chance wide.
