Apparently Tuchel ripped Pickford a new one for dicking about with the ball in the first half. The defence was woeful.

O'Reilly should be dropped, Mitchell must have been watching that at home and thinking WTF.

Guehi must play the next game best player of the previous tournament and he has grown since.

Why wasn't Gordon playing 😀
You highlight well why Guehi should be in the side . Not just that he would have given the defence some much needed intelligence but that his out ball would have brought the players down the left hand side into the game .

That Munoz goal was special last night. Lerma was excellent as well. Colombia looked like a very good team. Ok the opposition wasn’t the best but the forward movement from Colombia was very good.

On a general note - what does everyone think about the refereeing?
To my mind they are letting the games flow nicely- I ve only seen the France and England games
After the three red cards in first game there seems to be less obvious shirt pulling , holding at set pieces and diving
Is this a new policy ?
I think it makes for a better game and would like to a similar change in the Prem
What do you all think ?

As a rule the refs appear to be letting a LOT go, which I quite like, even including the Ref sticking to his guns on that MBappe Pen appeal.
That was until the england game, which seemed quite erratic. Some blantent fouls not given and some very weak fouls blown up. maybe he was just a sh*t ref.

VAR seems to be a lot more efficient than we're used to and even though the remit has been extended there don't seem to be the same delays we get.

I’ve been to all the big Palace games over the last 35 years.
England v Denmark in the semi final of the euros was another level, absolutely mental , the top tier felt like it was shaking.

Love Palace and love England,
England is great because I can enjoy it with all my mates that support other teams , instead of digging eachother out.

I would take one Palace FA Cup

(and now have) over 100 England World Cups. For me domestic football (both Palace and my non-league side) is a country mile away from international football.

We all know England are utterly boring to watch, but I also hate the support. Having seen the atmosphere Palace fans can drum up (not always, but often) I absolutely detest how dull the international support is. I often joke that the FA should hire the Palace fanbase to coordinate their live support. Incredibly biased I'm sure, but I'm on a Palace forum...

Same thoughts really , like that they are not giving silly fouls when players just hit the deck for no reason like they do in the PL but they seem to have lost the plot in waving away obvious fouls . The Scotland game last night may as well have not had a ref on the pitch ,it was more like a game down the rec

And what was that commentator on the BBC on this morning during the Turkey Paraguay game in keep referring to Turkey as Turkia ! .the man was a knumnut .Not as much as the ref though in sending off Almiron for the old 'you dont know what I'm saying 'trick , grassed up by a Turkish player , it was comedy gold
"After review ,Paraguay number ten ,for covering his mouth , red card !" the ref just loved it

I stayed up to watch the jocks get beat and it occurred to me, they remind me of a s*** palace performance most of the time, all huff and puff with no quality in the final third

I can't dispute life experience, and must admit I am comparing the England atmosphere in televised games to Palace games where I have sat in the crowd - apples and oranges. So I will happily retract that part based on what you've said, BUT I would love some more creative chants. We do have quite a decent repertoire of songs at Palace. As a part timer that can usually only make one game a season (apart from the one off season I got an ST) I usually find that there are a couple of songs each year that I haven't heard before. Brighton have the luxury of only having one song of course, and the only word in it is "Albion". England are somewhere in between, the songs don't really seem to change or make reference to a fat Nottingham Forest owner.

Sorry, what a lot of waffle that didn't really make a point!

I agree, although there have been penalties given for nothing (Canada got one, someone else too, can't remember). It'll be interesting to see later on in the tournament whether refs get busier.

It would have been really great if the refs had said before the tournament that 'Just to inform the players, we intend to let more go because you've all got to the point of being unbearable. Crying and screaming over every little contact, half of which you initiate yourselves'. Then there would be a clear directive behind it. As it is I think it's just random.

Which leads me to my biggest bugbear (on the pitch). I watched Scotland lose last night and they were utterly shameless. Throwing themselves at the ground at every opportunity, squealing for decisions instead of just playing the game. It was good to see the ref ignore them, but awful to see them do it to begin with. England players do it too. This culture is now so ingrained, especially in British players. I think it's to do with domestic VAR, sticking it's nose in, looking for things to give to justify itself. It encourages cheating. That's what the players are used to now.

At one point we were treated to a VAR expert on ITV, some American woman, explaining that McTominay, who had run into a crowd of bodies in the box and tumbled pathetically, should have been given a penalty because there was contact. A blind man on a galloping horse could see he'd just thrown himself over as he had no options. They are so wedded to assessing incidents in slow motion that they forget what their eyes have just seen in real time. If this is the level of expertise behind VAR then it's no wonder the game is so s*** now.

And England were far from dull against Croatia

Adopt the Warren Beatty approach. A skinful of beer then a tap on the shoulder.
For the younger readers.

For many years there was tales about what a great ladies man Beatty was and how he swept women off their feet and into his bed with his wit, charm, flattery and good looks.

A couple of weeks ago I was gratified to read a story by an actress who not knowing him was brought to his hotel room to find him naked on top of his bed and not attempting to cover himself. As she was a virgin at the time he didn't get his oats.

Okay I admit it's jealousy but so much for for wit, charm and flattery. My guess is it was too easy for him so he got a bit lazy.

Clear rule on mouth covering. And he knew it.

That country is called Turkey as in the bird. There is clearly a directive to the TV networks to pronounce it "correctly" but I'm standing firm. I've only just got used to saying Czech Republic and I've recently been there. Czechia? Where the feck is that?
