Main Stand redevelopment thread

Around that time from memory , Also a Neighbour who worked for A. J Wates the builder reckons their owner and Palaces chairman at the time had the Palace players labouring during the closed season .
Could be bullshit though .
Could be true. Players weren’t always paid through the closed season in those days. Mick Channon was a painter and decorator in Southampton as a young pro.

From information published the Club started building the Academy in 2014 with most of the major work continuing until 2019 when it opened. I see a number of claims that Textor paid for the Academy but he only came on the scene as a Director in August 2021 having loaned Palace some money for players before that. Academy opened in October 2019 and it more likely that the £45+5 million received from ManU for Aaron Wan Bissaka in June 2019 help pay for the development.

Johnson took over Textor’s shares and his team has advised Palace to change the structure of the new stand from concrete to steel with resulting large savings. The Club sacked constructors Ardmore some months ago prior to it entering administration. The reason, not surprisingly, lack of progress. It could take up to a year for a new construction company to be appointed.

In the meantime, we struggle to cope with the demand for tickets by those who wish to be regular fans, bring their families and friends and develop a continuing fan base.
Great info, thanks Norbury. Should we be concerned at all at the change in materials in your opinion?

Not really. Most new grounds/stands are built with steel frames so I was a bit surprised when I heard the plans were to use concrete. The downside of steel is that in 50-100 years it will have to be rebuilt but who cares. In Qatar a number of new steel stadiums were built in 2/3 years for the World Cup. It’s a shame we could not buy up a disassembled one, knock down Selhurst Park and reassemble the Qatari one on the site.

So why would it take up to a year to get a new builder? Who is saying that?

Several months have already passed since we sacked the last lot.

They'll have to come round, measure up, shake their head, hold their chin, make up problems and then, give a quote on WhatsApp.
And then make up a price depending on your post code.

I wonder if its to do with finding someone the club can trust to deliver it on time and on budget, and more importantly, not to go bust in the process?
The way things have been going, you could understand any caution.

Unfortunately, this whole thing is now beginning to look farcical. A club statement would probably help.

Dry heat.

Makes any difference?

In what way would a club statement help? It's only used to criticise, if events change, out of the clubs control.
Well obviously because it's better to have information than not. A vacuum just creates misinformation and frustration.
If we will be waiting months longer for work to start then better to know now.

Club Statement: relax, it's all in hand bro, chill.
A few details wouldn't hurt. We all know it's going to happen, but it has now been delayed yet again.
It was meant to start in January, then we had our hopes pinned on May. If it's going to be next Christmas then just say so.

No news suggests that Parish doesn't know when it will start either.
