is there a hidden source of other Italians ? a population reserve ? Italians stashed away near the Mediterranean that can be tapped ?

After the European conquests, many tribes of Native Americans ceased to reproduce. And have pretty much disappeared off the face of the Earth. The Iroquois and Navajo have ceased to reproduce and will be headed for an existential oblivion in the near future. Similarly the Taiwanese are headed for obscurity. First to die are the languages, then the extended families .....and finally the nation.

Poverty is often cited as an explanation. However, the true story is more complex. Many countries with extreme poverty also have extremely high fertility. The converse is also true as we see in Hong Kong.

There needs to be proper financial incentives to have children. We can safely say it's unaffordable in Ireland currently.
Everyone waits much longer now and has less kids. Because they can't afford it. That's the reality.

Always shake my head in despair when you see people blaming things like smartphones for people not having kids when it’s painstakingly obvious that it’s because it’s eye wateringly expensive to have just one kid these days, let alone multiple.

It takes two to buy a house now. And two people to maintain the mortgage. The woman has to go back to work. Whereas in years gone by the woman could be a stay at home Mom and the man's salary would cover it.

Childcare is crazy prices. 1300 for the one around the corner from me.

Unless you are social welfare with a free house you can't really pop out more than two kids. The country is not for people who choose to do things the right way. Rather it's for the chancers, dole pick ups and Asylum seekers.

Just to let you know: they don't get any cheaper when they get older either.

Before my eldest went to school in September it genuinely would have cost more to put our 2 kids in childcare than my wife would have earned as a teacher for the same hours. Insane system.

The exact issue here. And the feelings of just about everyone now. I wish I'd gone on the dole twenty years ago. Then made up a disability. I'd be f***ing laughing.
I'd have a house for thirty a week, fuel allowance. Free travel and free healthcare. I'd be down the pub not a care in the world.
I earn good money and I'm pretty skint. Not totally but can't afford those extras. Like fixing my car and my roof.

Dan is a fem power go girl advocate so the last thing he wants is a woman not being able to stick it to the patriarchy by going out to their daily office job for the CEO. Working for their children, family and husband is just slavery basically
