Retained and Released list

Academy players released/sold by us in the last two or three years include the following:
  • Malachi Boateng plying his trade regularly with Plymouth in League 1 after a stint in the Scottish Premiership.
  • Rob Street just been promoted to the Championship with Lincoln City
  • Jake O'Brien now at Everton
  • Kofi Balmer just signed for Bristol Rovers in League 2 after release by Motherwell
  • Sean Grehan plays for Doncaster Rovers in League 1.
  • Franco Umeh sold to Portsmouth in the Championship last Summer but hamstring problems meant he missed virtually all of last season.
  • Ola-Adebomi was sold to WSG Tyrol in the Austrian Bundesliga last Summer and featured nearly 20 times last season
I suspect there are others who I can't remember who are making a living in professional football somewhere.
Jason Lokilo plays in Poland with Piast.
Randell Williams plays for Reading
Nikola Tavares is now with Barnet
Ryan Innis last played for Forest Green
Sullay Kaikai is with Cambridge United
Keshi Anderson is with Portsmouth although contract was due to expire
Kymani-Gordon is at Colchester

i see David Ozoh is on our retained list despite online reports of his contracting expiring this summer.

I did recently mention that a Derby supporting mate had been told by their manager that Ozoh had another year at Palace but some preferred to go with capology.

Who knew, the internet is not always 100% accurate.
Transfermarkt have his contract expiring next Summer. They're usually accurate with their data.

Marsh and Rodney obviously have a future as professionals, it's just about at what level.

The only question for me is that I assumed that the academy was meant to either feed the 1st team....but obviously that would be rare, but it does happen.....or that we were meant to sell players to help at least pay for part of the academy.

Maybe I'm wrong, but we don't really seem to have sold anyone for quite a while.

While the last couple of years seem to have been empty in terms of exciting players emerging for the first team. When you look at Cardines, Benamar, Casey and Drakes-Thomas (still a scholar) Lucca Benetton (still a scholar) there is some optimism for the next few years....if we can retain them.

Does anyone have any other players from those retained lists that they think might end up playing regularly for us.....I view Rio Cardines as one of those to play more regualy next season, due to the extended fixtures.....I think he is good enough.

We still get a small percentage on future fees of whoever went through the academy. I'd have to look it up. It's maybe 3% followed by 1.5%. Still, we need to sell one for a decent fee to pay for it. Rak-Sakyi maybe?

Mofe Jemide was a serious prospect before his injury - was regularly in an around the England youth squads which is generally a big indicator.

Still only 19, and a left footed centre half which is a really desirable profile for a lot of clubs.

I think he could still make it.

We will have made a bit from the sales of players like Jake O’Brien, Killian Phillips and Malachi Boateng.

We’ll also have banked a bit from the likes of Derry and Watson who hopped onto other academies.

Adaramola, Ozoh, Goodman and Rak-Sakyi are all relatively valuable by now and would command reasonable fees should we chose to sell.

Already this is very poor from the club what is the point of re signing people who are past it and they are just to make up numbers.

We have plenty of youth we don't need to be doing this.

This is the sort thing that makes people question the ambition you should have a squad which competes.

Likes of Clyne are not going to compete with anyone.

Waste of time keep begging kamada to stay he has been clear he's done and only way I could see him stay is if we offer silly money he doesn't deserve.

Who does this apply to other than Clyne..?

Actually, I'm a bit bothered by the fact that I don't see Lucca Benetton's name on the retained list. But he's not listed as leaving either.

That's a highly regarded keeper who Man U were sniffing around.

I don't think O'Brien was an academy prospect. He was three years at Cork City before us and we would have paid a fee.

It depends how you define it really - he spent 3 years in our academy from 19-22, so we certainly have some claim.

When you look at the big clubs, most of their ‘academy prospects’ were mopped up from somewhere else as a teenager.

True, but he was already a Cork City senior player. He may have qualified as home grown here. I couldn't say. I wouldn't fully know enough about new Academy rules.

Don’t quote me on it, but I don’t think he’s yet eligible for a scholarship or professional terms, so potentially his exclusion is simply based on that.

The fact he’s already playing a few years up means he’s a familiar name, but it could well be that he’s just too young for the retained list.
I think 15 certain academy terms, rising at 16 (like 90-300 a week) . Professional terms can be offered anytime but kick in at 17.
