A border is a bit of a touchy subject in Ireland but could well be hastening as there has been a lot of talk on both sides about illegal immigration from the other side. We need an integrated system but no doubt too hard for them to do somehow.

Apparently the suspect flew into Dublin from Paris. The border between the northern Ireland and Ireland is the least of our worries if we can't take arrivals into Dublin airport seriously.

People dump their passport, present at the border and get a minibus to City west. I guess they can then do what they like. That's our system isn't it?

Shocking. Last week I had to go through immigration control in Berlin to get to the gate to get my flight back to Dublin. I'm sure most European airports have the same.

Shocking. Last week I had to go through immigration control in Berlin to get to the gate to get my flight back to Dublin. I'm sure most European airports have the same.

Forged/counterfeit passport. Or more likely impersonating the rightful holder of the document. Both these scenarios relied on check in staff picking them up. TBF not at all easy

I was more of the opinion that they have real passports but as soon as they get through the immigration and land then the passports mysteriously disappear...it's probably a bit of both I suppose.

IMO and experience I very much doubt he had a genuine passport but we may never know

I have been out most of today so following this story on the radio. I never follow stories like this on social media, for the very good reason that things get distorted and politicised immediately and the picture painted cannot be trusted. Here being an obvious example of that.

I did hear a local politician saying that many communities were expressing fear for themselves and their neighbours. Not though, what people here seem to think, but the immigrant communities feel threatened and their locally born friends and neighbours are trying to help and advise them. A local mosque has made an unequivocal condemnation of the evil attack saying it was one their members who raised the alarm and gathered people to intervene.

So the Belfast police chief probably knows a great deal more than you do and is offering very sensible advice.

Everyone would like to stop illegals crossing our borders. It isn’t smart to state the obvious. What’s smart is finding practical ways to do it. No one panders to immigrants. We meet obligations.
