Main Stand redevelopment thread

You might be right, but it would be a nightmare getting panning permission to demolish all those houses on Park Road and replace them. Even if the Council were content with the effect of this on the character of the area, look how long it's taken (is still taking?) with just six houses on Wooderson Close.

On the other hand, I can well imagine the Council readily supporting the club, perhaps through use of a compulsory purchase order, if it had a scheme to replace the Whitehorse Lane stand with a mirror image(ish) of the Holmesdale. That could involve building over the top of the existing Sainsburys, or knocking down the stand and supermarket and building a new stand with a replacement supermarket below. The houses/flats on Whitehorse Lane do not seem to have rear facing windows and there would be more than enough space to do it. Sainsbury's could even get a nice, shiny supermarket out of it.

Based on how the negotiations for the strip of car park land Palace needed for the new Main Stand went, I should think any joint-project with Sainsburys for a replacement supermarket and stand would be perfectly straightforward, swift, and with no problem at all.... 😕
Sainsbury's don't seem like they want to sell up a busy store and if they did agree to remodel or relocate, they would want a king's ransom to do it.
Were the houses in Wooderson Close not council houses bar one? Surely private houses would not need replacing, or am I misunderstanding the rules?

We could club our Nectar points together?

Last time I was in that Sainsbury's it felt like the Third World. How many people who go to games shop in there?

They were council houses in Wooderson Close but that's not the only reason we had to replace them. There is a housing shortfall across the country, and any proposal resulting in a reduction in overall provision will have it's work cut out to demonstrate that the benefits outweigh that. Not easily done.

The council and the London Assembly both made several problems for us. Costing us millions. They have been far from helpful.
Which is the exact opposite of how other teams have been treated by their local authorities. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not sure Croydon deserves us. They don't appreciate us.
I would disagree on that. The council issued the planning permission very quickly despite it coming out of the blue, and it involving the demolition of six occupied council houses. That alone would have made some councils go cold on the idea. The stuff palace were required to do and pay is just the usual for a development that size.

I think Parish was quite fullsome in his gratitude to the council at the time.

Well some friends of mine was put on other sites as they had to stop on that site because of Covid . I was working in power stations back then on outages , 50% of us wasn't allowed on sites , which slowed up repairs

Think you will find back in 1980 we was going to build a new stadium remember seeing it in the old Supporters club , roughly based on Wembley if my memory is correct ,

Thank you but to many people died very quickly to be a scam

No they didn't go and look at the figures they are within normal ranges of death rate within margin of error.

The media etc was constantly reporting everything which made it feel like it was larger than it really was.

Numbers don't lie govt/media do

More harm has come after it because of those jabs and mental health toll it took on a lot of people.

People can disagree on how serious covid was or what the jab did/didn't do...

But even a blind man can see the 'response' by the gov was a total over reach and cause damage beyond repair to the economy, community and future of the country.. they have even gone as far to say as much.

I am not going to argue that lockdown and how it was handled had a huge impact on everything from the way we work to the way we play, but I will never accept that the vaccination programme was not needed and did not make a difference.

I lost a family member who died during the early days of COVID and I reckon had vaccines been available sooner they would still be here.

Hindsight is a great thing as is the power of saying 'I told you so,' but just as important is that as a society we learn from the past.

But back to topic out new stand, since we announced this and put out that shiny video other clubs have built whole new stadiums......

Every delay sees costs go up. Still reckon we just get. Croydon council to step.up and let us build a new stadium on all that land laid waste on the assumption that Westfield were going to regenerate the town centre

It appears you are not very bright.

Palace was suppose to start building work before covid (construction industry still carried on during the scamdemic)

How is it 3 years behind for Wrexham you can't count and you seem to think construction happens over night no it tends to take years.

Maybe next time look at things correctly you would see the reasons behind some of the delays and they are nothing like Palace.

It's going to cost Palace double now to do work because of the messing about from them with likes of Brighton building a new womens stadium before Palace even add few thousand to a stand.
the fact you quote covid as a scam shows what a complete tw at you are, Best ignore you - if only for my own sanity.

Get a life grumpy

Hardly I said it when the event happened and everything I stated then has been proven true.

Considering that is a field I am trained in and was involved in over 3 decades of working in research as well as conducting lectures worldwide so i know full well about it.

I even stated about the claimed vaccines and again I was correct how so well it's simple when you understand science and the way industry operates.

Anyway this thread is not about the scamdemic.

He's not wrong, though, whoever this angry tweeting Frenchman is.
There are rich clubs in France including PSG. They just don't play in a League that the world wants to watch. The Premier League is just that in terms of popularity and therefore generates a lot of money from broadcast rights. That's capitalism.
