If I was running Lens I'd be holding out for whatever the maximum compensation fee is from Palace, safe(ish) in the knowledge that Sage is clearly our No1 target.

If Parish tries the old 'Here is my lower but final offer, take it or I'll go elsewhere' tactic, I would simply say 'I doubt it mate. Your other options would either cost you much more (Lampard, McKenna) or they are totally free of charge (Dyche, Toppmoller) yet you've chosen not to employ them and to come in for our man instead, which tells me you don't fancy them'.

Besides which, if the guy is under contract then fairs fair. Perhaps he'll throw a strop if he really wants to come to us, perform poorly at work, all that stuff, but that's pretty counter productive for him really. He's not Pep f***ing Guardiola. He's only been a manager for a couple of years, so Lens well be pretty confident that he'll continue to do his best for them if this move doesn't come off.

If it's really £2m or so then I can't imagine it'll be a problem. We've probably lost that much down the back of the sofa over the last few years, such is the wacky world of the premier league.

Quite tends to mean settled and without a major upheaval a done deal. 👍
Yep pretty much a done deal even Sainsburys have added Frogs legs and Escargot to the shelves .

Very naive, if you think Parish will offer any more than he has too. He is a shrewd operator, as shown in his acquisition of Palace, where he out maneuvered Jordan.
I'd say you've never done a business deal therefore prehaps it might be you that's the naive one? If there are many moving parts to a deal and for that reason you need to get it done sometimes you have to offer a sweetener to get it over the line. Lens have no investment in Sage coming to Palace and only want him gone with as much compensation as they can get.
They know they can hold the deal up by asking for an unrealistic amount. Equally they know there is a ceiling to what they can expect.
I run my own business and will always try and get the best deal. Thats common sense. Sometimes the best deal is to pay a little bit more and get it done before a rival swoops in and takes that deal from you. Also, common sense

Looks like we've landed him. Fantastic. Get Hackney in and it's a great start to the summer.
I heard we have tabled a £20m offer for Hackney but Boro holding out for £25m. No Championship player is worth £25m. Hopefully Boro will come down a bit. Hackney wants out and Boro need the money.
