We won’t. The community of the willing will, but not at once. Investments will yield both work and profits. It’s not a black hole. It’s an economy in a country with a lot of natural resources waiting to be exploited. Defending democracy from the ambitions of Putin isn’t stupid. It’s an essential investment in our survival. One that will, in time, pay rich dividends.

Having deals means nothing when someone tries to steal the goods before delivery.

Any deal made by Putin is worth less than the steam off your piss! Temporary pauses must be used by us to ensure he cannot start again. Of course I care about Ukraine, primarily as the front line of the west. I don’t hate Russia, or the Russians. Unlike you I have actually been there. They are little different to us. They just get starved of the truth and manipulated by the rich and powerful. All you imagine here can actually be seen there. Ukraine is a necessary cost. Only fools cannot see that. Fools who put short term economics ahead of long term security.
 
A few doomsayers on here were calling a defeat for Ukraine recently but the worm has turned one small figure hurting Russia is the fall in GDP this deficit ( that grows monthly) translates into higher borrowing costs the sanctions work very slowly to strangle an economy ( imagine a slow working boa constrictor). Putin is trying to put off the inevitable but this is slowly working itself to an agreed solution and will happen within a year.

It is defeated.

The country is now a client state, wholly dependent upon foreign control and support.

It can't pay its own people and its infrastructure will take probably decades to put back.

It's lost over twenty percent of its country, the most productive regions, and most of its productive young generation has fled, probably unlikely to return.

Interest rates where 22% recently, now 14.5%, difficult to see how the country can invest in itself at those kind of financing costs.
