I am just yet again amazed by the delay here.
We have known we needed a new manager for months yet seem no closer to an appointment. Bournemouth replaced their manager within days of knowing there was a vacancy. Liverpool replaced their manager within a week or so of sacking the last one and we swm to just be drifting along as candidates get other jobs or rule themselves out.
There was understandable criticism last year when we won the FA cup and did not push on. We have now won another cup and again now is a time we can push on but without a manager we will simply drift.
Our success last season was because of Glasner not as Parish is such a brilliant chairman and without as good a leader we will just be back to treading water.

Whilst this is undeniable we still need a lot of players in and out, at the end of the World cup we have a month to the Premier league starting, Fail to prepare and prepare to fail.are you mad? The season has just finished. All the players are on holiday or international duty. There is no delay. The priority is not getting a manager as fast as possible. The priority is getting the right manager, and ideally with enough time for a solid pre-season. If we do indeed appoint Sage in the next week that is a blooming quick bit of business for us. Think of the complexity of the appointment, we were in for Iraola until the bin dippers came adipping. We then had to move onto the next on the list who we've likely been keeping warm, then more meaningful contract conversations need to happen.
You have totally unrealistic expectations on the speed that things can be done. Yes we have left a lot of business decisions too late, at present this isn't one of them.

It's slim pickings this time around, it seems. My biggest fear is Sage is not the manager we hope he is, the pressure now on him has multiplied massively, lets hope he is the right man.

It's a fair point, particularly if recruited on the back of one good season in France. My biggest fear is Sage is not the manager we hope he is, the pressure now on him has multiplied massively, lets hope he is the right man.

It's a waiting game. You don't want to be spending a mint on a new manager who appears quite savory, but ends up making you look a bit of a dill.

Some chap commented to me at the weekend that Dyche is an experienced PL manager and a "Safe pair of hands" in contrast to Sage who has no PL experience, his career as a manager has been somewhat ephemeral and has received plaudits on the back of a single outstanding season in France. It's a fair point, particularly if recruited on the back of one good season in France.
I have to confess I have not made a detailed research of his career, and perhaps he has an outstanding cv, but there have been instances of what could be termed 'flavour of the month' managers on the back of one good season when everything has fallen into place for them.
I suppose the appointment of any new manager is a risk, and if it doesn't work out Dyche may still be available when a change is needed!
Fingers crossed that won't be necessary.

Officially, Glasner is still employed by the club until his contract runs out on the 30th June, 3 weeks away. All to be announced today? Rarely see things done over the weekend and theres been the extra bits to negotiate as hes currently with a club. People comparing it to deals done by Bournemouth and Liverpool are incomparable as both were out of work managers. Beginning of June, Glasner only clocked out just over a week ago, WC yet to start, could be nicely relaxed over the summer for once 😅
Spot on.
I am always surprised at the attitude so often aired on here, that palace should have got a new manager or new players in place sooner.
It's not like buying something you need from a shop. Anyone good enough to improve us will have other options, which means no matter how quickly and decisively we act, that person is unlikely to commit to us immediately. They will wait and see if a bigger opportunity comes along first. We could start approaching managers a year in advance and it would make no difference.
What is it about this that people struggle with?
Once in a blue moon a very good manager is out of work and is happy to sign for us well in advance (Glasner). Mostly though, as an earlier post above so correctly stated, the price you pay for a quick appointment is lower quality. You can have an average manager immediately, if that's what you prefer, because they don't have as many other options. The idea that Bournemouth have shown us the way by signing Rose is bollocks. He's an average manager based on his record, as is Toppmoller. I'm not saying neither could do well, but neither have very strong CVs. It not like waiting to see who else you could get is madness.
If course, the risk of playing the game is that we get strung along all summer only to get let down, and end up with a late compromise (see the Nuno/Vierra summer), but we are nowhere near that situation. The club have obviously learnt from that, hence chasing Iraola wholeheartedly but also giving him a strict deadline.
Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to have the new man in place soon. It must help a bit in terms of planning etc, and I'm sure a new manager would make some contribution to transfer strategy. None of that is essential, though, as it's not the key part of the managers job anymore. That's why we have a director of football.

Sentiments rooted in sound judgement and common sense.Couldn't agree more. There seams to be an opinion thought that everything has to be done immediately, and if its not, everyone at the club is completely incompetent.
Its just a complete disconnect from reality and common sense.
