Glasner Out

Glasner did an outstanding job. Sometimes he let his heart rule his head. (so did others)
Palace's best ever manager, by a country mile. And the best Board ever, too. (OK we got demoted in European competition, but Palace got rid of Textor. By far the biggest win

Don't think class he did say things that still upsets me when things was going wrong ,
but I will never ignore his massive achievement he has done for us , gave me the greatest day of my palace life , I haven't watched a rerun think I may have a tear in my eye , but thank you again for a fun 30 months
Yep, I know he upset a lot of us with his outburst during that infamous presser, but you have to admit, the guy was put under a load of pressure when the board sold Guehi just before a crucial match.

In fact, when you think about it, we're fortunate he stuck to his contract, when plenty of lesser blokes would have bu**ered off. No, sorry, I still maintain he is a class fella.

When we say best ever: best ever up until now. We could still become better - although the liklehood is we won't. But let's hope.
Its possible that with the right managerial appointment we could keep the feel good factor going and who knows? Maybe win something else in the next couple of years but if that were to happen Glasner would still be the catalyst that kick started Palace from a team that hopes into a team that believes.

Guehi could have been injured in the warm up. He could have been ill. It happens and the manager deals with it. He also threw all the kids under the bus with his remarks. I appreciate all he did and respect him for that. Albeit he got paid a healthy salary to actually do his job.

Totally irrelevant. It's impossible to compare a player being sold under the nose of the manager with a hypothetical situation of a possible injury.
The salary he was paid is neither here nor there either.

Glasner didn't just "do his job". I think he excelled, rather magnificently. Palace fans had two seasons of sensational cup competitions, and finally got that monkey off Palace backs of always being losing finalists. ( league form, rather like a roller coaster 😀 )
It would take something almost Biblical to better those two seasons, but you must always have hope

I slated him after his outburst in January, and he’s turned it around since then. The trophies…..truly unbelievable. But on the flip side I think his outburst led to a knee jerk reaction from the club throwing £80m on Johnson and Strand Larsen. Time will tell how that plays out.

I'm pretty sure Johnson had already been bought very early in January, breaking our transfer record, before Glasner's outburst

I like Strand Larsen but for sure we overpaid - by a lot

Presumably the fact that Mateta wanted out of the door was also a contributory factor in agreeing that inflated fee

You're absolutely correct. Johnson played in that game at Sunderland (and had little impact), after which Glasner spoke to the media about his frustrations as to developments.

JSL arrived at our club having only scored a solitary goal in 22 PL games last season and that was against struggling Burnley.

No doubt we overpaid for Johnson and JSL, but I think having actual depth options like them and Guessand in the second half of the season is a big part of why we were able to achieve our goals. It's not that they particularly tore it up in their performances, but it allowed us to rest the likes of Mateta, Pino and Sarr without it completely decimating our standards.

Glasner's conduct was poor and he clearly let his emotions get the better of him, but he was completely right re the state of the squad going into January.

My personal view is Glasner’s behaviour was an attempt to get fired. He’d already decided he was leaving at a time when the board had turned down good money for Guehi to keep him at Glasner’s insistence. It was never about squad depth or transfers. He was off even if we signed 6 players in the summer. It’s what he’s done to all his recent clubs.

To announce to the press you are off without agreeing the announcement with the chairman, basically not try to win a game and then to criticise (even implicitly) the board, the squad and the fans were clearly the actions of somebody trying to provoke the board into sacking him.

I am ecstatic about the trophies and fair play to both Parish and Glasner for getting on with it but let’s not pretend Glasner was some wronged party put under intolerable pressure. He knew exactly what he was doing.

I think this is a very good point. Mateta was not at his best as he was carrying this injury that ultimately cost him the transfer to Italy

Strand Larsen coming in gave him the opportunity to get fully recovered, and let the dust settle as he was suddenly not so popular, and then when fully recovered come back with the dust settled and ultimately win us back over and get us the winning goal in the final.

I think it's a reasonable theory, but I don't understand why it would stand in opposition to the statement in bold - Glasner may well have decided he'd try to get fired, and I think it is reasonable to speculate on that, but he can make that decision in the context of someone who has been wronged and left in an unfair position, which he was.

He a professional coach deal with it , not sulk and insult the bench , it was a poor show on glasner part , if I had a issue I didnt go to the press thats a child's way out ,

But I still like him and would thank him for the best 13 months of my Palace life

He has been our most successful manager for sure. Tactically he is excellent when it comes to analysing opponents and coming up with a game plan to counter their threat. His comment to Pep gave an insight into how he thinks.
He clearly has a good relationship with his players, is capable of motivating them, and improves their game(with one or two notable exceptions!) He was fortunate in having some of the best players we’ve ever had for part of his reign, but has still delivered success when they’ve gone.
He has a talent for a cup run and it’s no accident we’ve succeeded in those competitions. However he isn’t great at utilising his squad over a long season and there was a period when our starting eleven were out on their feet and we were in free fall in the league. He will get away with that in leagues where 60 games a season is unheard of, but we almost came unstuck because of his lack of flexibility in terms of personnel and formation.
I’ve previously suggested his outbursts may reflect a lack of ability to control his emotions following his serious head injury. It could, of course, just be his personality. Either way I don’t hold it against him. I’ll always be grateful to him for bringing us 3 trophies and will follow his progress at Milan with interest.
Anyway, the king is dead, long live the king! I’m looking forward to our new manager being announced. Hopefully it happens soon and I’m hoping it is a certain French coach currently with Lens. Alez les rouge et bleu!
