Dear Brighton, been there done that

I had a quick look at North Chat and Charlton forum. I think they were more jealous of our owners, Parish getting a lot of praise.

In Charlton's case I can understand that, one set of dodgy owners after another with the current ones jury still out on.

But Brighton fans slagging off Bloom, c'mon they guys done wonders at Brighton and spent money.

What Brighton don't realise is that everything is going right for them at the moment. New stadium, good recruitment system, decent manager, smart owner. But the one thing they don't have is decent fans. They have a bunch of middle class picnic lovers, that have either switched from a tentative love of Chelsea, or browsing nick nack shops on a Saturday afternoon. They have one song which only has the word "Albion" in the lyrics. They'll never be a top club until they have a wholesale turnover of their frou frou fanbase.

The club's in massive debt apparently. Plus the obvious player sales.

I'm technically middle-class according to my friends but still a proud Palace fan although I do have to remember to drop my aitches when singing "we're the 'Olmesdale over 'ere". 🙂

I meant no offence to middle class people, but you know what I mean. Turning up with Prosecco and calling "Jocasta, Tarquin, the football game is about to commence" across the concourse.

Suspect as well that the analytics they've been using to find players are now being used by other clubs so their advantage has been diminished, particularly now Chelsea aren't throwing bundles of cash at them. A bit like when the Oakland As had early success using the moneyball approach then the big clubs used it as well and Oakland went back to normal.

'the analytics they've been using to find players' All clubs have access to and use the same data bases which list every player and all their details. If you want to find a 25 year old 2 metre tall centre half who has played for their country you just enter that in the search box and get a list out. All clubs have been using this for years and Dougie's people would have used the same database. Most scouting these days starts with the keyboard.

OK, then let's say they were better at interpreting the data and consequently bringing in players with a higher resale value.
 
Slightly amusing. After looking at the Europa League qualifiers for next season I had a look at the conference qualifiers and there are some potentially harder teams for the weeds to come against including Monaco, Atalanta, Ajax, Freiburg, Braga, Getafe and Panathinaikos. Our old friends Larnaca are in the qualifiers too. Be interesting to see how hard they find it getting past Larnaca's 11 men in defence.

I think that’s what uefa planned. After a few years this tin pot cup is looking like a real trophy with better and better teams in it. The fact it’s europa qualification for a win is a big prize as well. For once they did their homework 👌
