Our Goal Difference & Form....its Rubbish

Lots of teams have had disappointing seasons. I would say only Arsenal, City, United, Villa, Bournemouth , Sunderland, Leeds and ,possibly, Brentford fans will be happier than us (certainly if we get a result Wednesday) and most have not won a trophy. Brighton will be gutted that a draw would have given them Europa (props to Man U for turning up in a mean-nothing game) and Brentford slipped away at the end and missed a big chance late in Sunday's game that would have got them Europa: they ended up with no Europe at all
Agree. 7 clubs should look back on their season with genuine satisfaction.

12 will not.

Almost double in Camp Not.

If we win tomorrow, will we be in the happy side or the unhappy side? Fence-sitting ambivalence not permitted.

Personally, I will be on the happy side; but with genuine concern about another season playing Thursdays.

Only 10 Home PL victories over the last 2 seasons.
The second lowest number of goals from 'Open Play' in the PL the season just ended.
Henderson, Munoz, Rizla Lacroi , Mitchell. ....etc....our Defence has often been World Class.

however, at the other end of the pitch...... we have been in Charlton's Class.

This has more to do with Glasner's formation; goals should come from across the squad, but under Glasner Mateta has been the focal point, all the eggs in one basket so to speak, but when he went on a barren spell we can thank our lucky stars that Sarr stepped up otherwise we would have been relegation material.
Also take away Eze's contribution last season and Munoz's injury and it's clear that because of the way the team is set up there's not a lot coming from other areas. This is why I reserve judgement on players like Johnson and Strand Larsen until next season when the squad gets the chance to work with someone with different ideas.

Is the correct answer.

Agreed 👍

ideas like hoofing the ball up into the Stands over the corner flag ?
Or not playing 8 defenders every game whoever we are playing, home or away, top or bottom teams, i think its called tactics, no not tic tac's, they are mints.

We are, by an absolute mile, the biggest underperformers in the division when it comes to converting chances - our actual output was something like -17 on our xG. That gap is more than double anyone else in the division.

To put the blame for that at the door of the coach is completely bonkers.

Currently the joint-fourth-worst in the Prem. Today the commentator mentioned our dire lack of goals from open play.

Forest are already above us on GD, as could be Spurs if a few games go a certain way.

And a question : if there were a prize for pinging the ball off the woodwork and hitting it only a few inches wide, catching the side-netting, or skying it miles up into the stands, or hoofing it into a no man's land between the goal and the corner flag....would we be in line for it ? This does not bode well for the Autumn.

shots on target ? the opposition 'keeper can go for a coffee break during the match

I think the thing this season is, we played at a pretty pedestrian pace in the league to focus on Europe. I hope but we will never know, if we were knocked out of Europe we would have done better in the the league. Likewise, if we had ever been in serious trouble in the league our focus would have changed from Europe to the league. Very hard for a club of our size to compete in both.

yes Eagle , of course. The Prem AND EUROPE.........its all a very tall order. However, many other clubs seem to have not been so utterly dire in England....even while entertaining foreign campaigns.

The point being, and it's been made here numerous times, is that Glasner, when things are not working as per his system, has no alternative plan in his box of tricks. A one trick pony to be sure. Devenny in for Munoz when Munoz was injured is the most obvious example - didn't work unsurprisingly. So yes, the manager can take part of the blame, as he is the one responsible for training and tactics, and when something isn't working as per plan then something else should be the least expected. But this has been discussed elsewhere multiple times.
I hope we win tomorrow, and I hope that lessons learned from this season can carry on into the next. Glasner will be remembered with mixed feelings I suspect.
