Personally I am happy enough to see betting firms phased out as shirt sponsors.
I've never been much of a gambler myself, and whilst I imagine the vast majority of folk who do have a flutter enjoy it as a harmless pastime, there are always those few who it gets a ruinous hold of. Perhaps those people will fall into its grip regardless, but surely the chances are reduced now, if only slightly. And it's not like gambling itself is banned. You can still pick up your phone and place a bet very quickly and easily. Perhaps too easily.
None of that actually bothers me much. The thing I dislike is the way the gambling industry has gone to great lengths to normalise it's presence in football and in everyday life over the last 15 years or so. At the risk of sounding like a mad lefty (I'm not) I find it very typical of the modern corporate method: The advertising for it is omnipresent, and always includes the usual unrealistic cast members: a happy mix in terms of race, gender, and sexualities, though of course always young, happy, and cool, because diversity is a limited concept in TV land.
All the Gamble Responsibly stuff is up there with McDonald's, faced with concerns over a growing obesity issue, offering fruit bags and sponsoring kids football with the FA. Corporate misdirection dressed up as corporate responsibility.
None of it is the end of the world. Just gets on my tits is all.
Anyway, I can't see how we will be financially worse off in real terms as all clubs are dropping gambling firms, so even if they are the highest payers everyone will have slightly less in the pot, not just Palace.
Christ knows what Temporal is though. I've looked it up and still couldn't tell you.
