D-Day for Spygate

It must stand if the problem is to be sorted, otherwise it will just continue and become normal, fines are hardly a deterrent.

Saints gained a playing advantage over the teams they spied on by cheating, breaking the rules.

Cannot understand Saints to take such crazy risks, multiple times..

But they did, so be it on their own heads.

😎 .
Acccording to Harry Redknapp :

"What are you learning by someone filming a bit of training? What are you learning by watching them train for an hour? It was a ridiculous thing to do."

It's a good question. Whenever they show training sessions on TV the players are either jumping up and down, running round the pitch after scoring a tap in or rolling around on the floor in a big pile up.

This is what i don't understand, what do you actually learn from watching a training session, you just watch their games dont you, anyone will tell you how to play against palace, sit deep, let them have possession, then you just adapt in game.

You might get set piece routines. It's the only useful things I can think of other than player availability. Which is usually mentioned some where anyway.
A few Southampton players will be looking to move on in my opinion. I know very little about them.

It may be one of several reasons: were Middlesbrough practicing an unorthodox free kick or a particular corner set up? Was one of their players showing a slight injury that could be capitalised upon?
Whether an advantage was obtained by Southampton or not, they had an unfair opportunity to use whatever information gleaned to their advantage.
It’s now a question of the scale of the punishment? Either way, it’s Middlesbrough that have been wronged and I cannot see how they can be recompensed without numerous legal challenges from Southampton being the reaction.
Delaying the play off final until August - pre Community Shield - would give time to sort the thing out - but would put both finalists in the same position as Palace and their European adventure, not knowing what tournament they were playing in and what potential funds they would have available.
So, I see a late scramble for tickets and travel from the North East to Wembley, Southampton to kick up a stink and ultimately lose and then getting a 10 point deduction for next season.
In reality, Hull need to win against whoever they play to nullify that part of the problem.

EFL released a Statement regarding kick-off times for Saturday dependant on how the spygate appeal for Southampton turns out .

Middlesbrough v Hull city 15.30
Hull city v Southampton 16.30

How can the fans plan ahead ?

in Reality, not a great deal, but you may get something.
At the end of the day, So'ton done something against the rules in order to gain an advantage(whether one is actually gained or not). They have to be punished.
Apart from the debate of whether this should or should not be a punishable offence, it's the punishment dished out in this case that I have a problem with. Wholly unsuitable punishment for the crime, and one that feels like So'ton have been made an example of.
Would this punishment have happened to 'one of the big six' if, for example it happened before an FACup semi final? I highly doubt it, and that's where the problem lies.

And now with the Appeal for a game less than 3 days away, where Hull may now play 'boro or will it still be So'ton?! - how will they prepare for this game properly. At least 'boro and So'ton know who their opponents will be.

Then there's the fans.. So'ton fans will have already arranged everything, tickets, travel, hotels etc. 'boro fans will not have. how do the 'boro fans get the so'tons fans tickets - are their tickets gong To be automatically refunded, the PFA can't refund the travel and hotel costs, surely, but I can't imagine SW Rail will give them a refund! and Surely there's nothing to say that the so'ton fans can't just keep thiers tickets and go anyway (or simply not turn up in protest)?

It's a right mess.

Irrelevant. We all know that fans are at the bottom of the food chain in football. Corporate hospitality, Global TV rights etc. are far more important…

A mess wholly of Southampton's making though.

I hope the intern is protected and management take full responsibility.

Probably raises the question about the spectacular run of form Southampton went on as well. They might have been doing this all the time. It's claimed the other cases they've admitted to were games they didn't win which is a bit convenient.

The other analogy is what happens when there is cheating in sports? Invariably the removal of the achievement and the position awarded to the next competitor; think athletics and drug taking. It’s cheating punished to penalise the guilty and reward the innocent. Normally followed by a ban for the guilty.
Fans will be impacted, I assume ticket portals will automatically refund whoever doesn’t attend Wembley and if hotels and travel is paid for by credit card then there should be recompense via those mediums. Gambling payouts? Who knows?
Southampton could be in a long term sticky situation if either they don’t get to Wembley or they get deducted points for next season. Do the fans stay away in protest against their club’s actions?

If you watch an opponents training session within 72 hours of a preceding match, doesn't it give you clues as to who might be fielded for the actual game, eg. a player is not training in the session etc, "so and so was limping", "player x took one straight in the nuts, don't think he will be playing".

So, in my mind it gives you some very salient feedback on which squad you might be facing in the next game.

I see one of the Wrexham players trying to make a case for Wrexham being reinstated in the playoffs now too. How about everyone that's played Southampton this season should play each other in a giant playoffs concluding in September?

That's why they should all wear each other's tops in training. That'd really mess with the spying.
