Labour Party politics

No. It would be doing what politicians are supposed to do. Which is to take actions they believe are in the country’s best interests. Not to simply do what is currently popular.

If the Tories had stayed true to our democracy Brexit would never have happened. The majority view, both of Parliament as a whole and within the Parliamentary Tory party, was to remain. A referendum was called only to try to finally quieten the euro sceptics and the threat being seen from the noisy upstart, Farage and his UKIP vehicle. It was all to preserve the Tories. They didn’t expect to lose. I will never forgive them for their stupidity and selfishness.

Repairing that error before I die is a big ambition.
It appears your disapproval of Brexit revolves around the fact that it was sourced from a public referendum. Therefore imagine a situation where Cameron hadn’t held a referendum and that at the next general election UKIP had won and subsequently taken us out of the EU. Would that appease you?

Starmer could have used his large majority and early authority to make difficult decisions in the national interest that were counter to Labour’s culture. Instead, he immediately played to the socialist gallery, sending gargantuan amounts of money to the unionised professions whilst hiking business taxes to cover the cost.
They have not been good but, again, growth every quarter since in power.

Your Tories did not achieve that with an equally massive majority.

And, while I am very much not a socialist, why not play to the socialist gallery? They're Labour!

BTW (genuine question) - what unionized professions have they channeled gargantuan amounts of money to? Perhaps you can attach a link to the article in the Mail or Express you sourced that comment from.

How many years did it take to complete Brexit ? Three, four ??

So then how long would rejoining take ?

It's entirely possible that this Government won't be in power to see it through....
Not as long.

Leaving sailed against the wind into turbulent waters and under the stewardship of a hopeless crew.

Rejoining would be very much with the tidal flow and into a very welcoming sea.

(On a negative, I suspect the crew will also be hopeless, but obviously not as inept as that which sought to take us out).

The point is that Farage has stated today (with one eye on the upcoming by-election) that Streeting's comment exposes a "betrayal" of Brexit.

That word is bandied about a lot by Brexiteers.

Anyway, the point you make is a valid one, but roll on a few years to the next GE. Reform, Restore and (possibly?) the Tories stand on a platform of staying out. The Greens, Labour and the Lib Dems on rejoining. The latter win and form a coalition on a joint mandate to rejoin.

There is no betrayal. The public has spoken.

Much could occur between now and then and this is all speculation. Thus, events could occur that destroy EU credibility. Similarly, demographic shifts could further fuel the move towards rejoining and may persuade the Chameleon Tories to switch back to Remain.

There are currently nine recognized candidate countries for EU membership: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. How many of them are likely to be net contributors?

For avoidance of doubt,I do not source all my comments from my revered 'Mail' or the 'Express', I have a plethora of discussions with prominent members of my party and beyond.
The inference that Labour did not channel funds to the Doctors, Train drivers etc etc is manifestly inaccurate.Furthermore they hiked business taxes to fund the splurge.

We have witnessed chaotic tax and spend, anaemic growth, inflation, unemployment and exceedingly high borrowing costs. The only plan that Labour had in relation to 'Growth' was merely to pontificate about it, whilst doing 'Sweet fanny Adams' about it !

Both Streeting and Burnham are displaying their 'Rejoin' credentials, probably attempting to distract from their terrifying dearth of throught-through policy, a theme that has ben prevalent since Labour came to power.

I fully recognise that Conservatives lost the trust of the electorate for reasons which have been well documented and at present the significantly damaged 'Brand' has not recovered. I for one am of the opinion that a reshuffle is overdue with new talent put in front of the country in the 'Shadow' offices of state roles.

On that note, I shall refrain from making any further comment as I would far rather spend my precious time contributing to the 'Football' threads, rather than get immersed in the failures of this dastardly Government.

Betrayal is probably right. Farage gave the opportunity for the public to state their opinion and the government didn’t deliver. I appreciate that this wasn’t helped by numerous appeals, legal challenges and women such as Gina Miller demanding a reversal, but the end result was not as was required.
The cooperation between the various parties you describe is probably correct and so again a divisive split between the population will be resurrected.
This was my main point against this subject being brought up by the potential candidates. We are all fighting over In or Out whilst all the other failings of the government get sidelined. Rather like the Iran conflict potentially pushing the Epstein situation under the carpet…

The Country didn’t reject Labour at the Polls over its leader , They favoured Reform over their policies on immigration and taxes .
The next election will be won by Reform with possibly a coalition with the Tories .
Labour have to many secret agenda’s within their squabbling Party factions to be trusted .

I didn't deny it I asked a question.

Are you suggesting they should not have sought to settle those disputes?

What splurge? If there had been some mad money rush, the City would have reacted and dumped the current government as they did with Truss. As it is, they are relatively calm and only react if there is a risk of upheaval. Labour are rubbish and the economic indicators are concerning, but economically they are more or less bumbling along in the face of serious external shocks.

They are better than the last lot... and that was one seriously low bar. The question is: who is there out there who can improve on them?

A lot to unwrap and some agree with.

However, Brexiteers need to stop blaming the Leave failure on miscellany like the points highlighted. Johnson had a huge mandate and an open road before him...

And how many will meet the 9 base criteria to get in?

This is a rehash of the Turkey fable pedaled by Brexiteers before the EU referendum.

Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia, Moldova, and Ukraine are already in various stages of negotiation so we'll find out in due course.

Do you mean Turkiye I have many Turkish friends who would appreciate the new spelling, with an umlaut over the U that would not only be up to date but also correct. 😉
