D-Day May 7th Local Elections

Because Reform is just Brexit rebranded; performative culture-war patriotism and an unrealistic belief that cutting immigration will fix deep structural problems and reverse our economic decline - it's just another political project that will inevitably benefit wealthy backers far more than ordinary voters.
And the New Uni-left and old Loony left are selling higher taxes , More immigrants , A massive welfare state all funded by the Working classes , Middle classes and wealthy , Even traditional hard working left leaning Labour voters aren’t going to buy into that offer ..

Reform making big gains. Impressive for a new party.

Time for Labour and Tory to move aside. They haven't changed and they never will.
It’s as impressive as contemplating your reflection! It’s narcissistic.

Reform aren’t a new party. They are just the current vehicle for Farage that started with UKIP. Which started within the anti-EU wing of the Tory right.

What will happen today is both predictable and predicted. It’s not the least surprising, interesting or impressive. This is just an inevitable stage in the British flirtation with populism.

The next stages are less predictable. For sure Reform will now have to face more reality as they struggle to manage local authorities with limited resources and, in many cases, having to rely on others to do so. This has already been seen in some places. Now there will be many more with the unavoidably negative results. Living solely on promises has gone. Now they will have to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

What’s less predictable is the impact of the collapse of populism elsewhere as its limitations and corruption gets put under the spotlight. Trump’s slide towards the exit being the biggest red flag to our voters. Voters who seem increasingly fickle.

What happens in the next few years is what is interesting. What happens in the next days isn’t. It’s already known.

I continue to believe that the next series of GEs will result in coalitions. Reform will try to be involved, and could be with the Tories, but efforts will also be made isolate them, although to hasten their demise it may be considered better to let them suffer the embarrassment of actually having some responsibility.

Now that would be impressive.

You clearly don’t like right wing politics.
That’s evident but to blame council failures on reform before they’re in the door is poor. You are proving that you will glory in reform failing which could be inevitable with the s*** they are picking up. Now they have the power maybe the evidence of waste, squander and mates rates will come to light. I can hear the shredders working in overdrive as I type 🤣

Reform have been in control of several councils ( largest party in N.O.C.) and have raised the rates as high as permitted a very expensive party to back.
Some Reform minority-led councils saw high increases, such as Worcestershire, which implemented an 8.98% rise .

Every By-election and Council election since 1962 by-election which was won by Eric Lubbock has shown good gains against the incumbent government it has been as regular as night follows day the trend this time looks a little worse as Labour swept the board after Boris the liar was de-throned, you know the stuff 50 mile drive to Barnard Castle as an eye sight test, party -gate law breaking, Michelle Mone and her not fit for purpose PPE only £10 million wasted. Only 3% of immigrants are illegals and a convicted drug dealer and kidnapper decides to call on the rabble to smash up Epsom for a fake rape.

NEW: The Tories have won control of Westminster council from Labour. Very much expected Labour voters cannot afford the many millions required to live there, Tories are much preferred as they are democrats not scumbags.

It's highly entertaining reading the posts from the Left on here following the election results. None of them address the obvious - that the electorate reject the policies that they champion.

I am not blaming Reform or anyone else. People try to do their best but when expectations meet reality disappointment follows. It’s what has happened to Labour at a national level. Now Reform will taste the poison.

Reform are also burdened by a lack of local experience and a heavy hand from the centre. I predict a torrent of resignations following disagreements, with elected councillors sitting as independents. Alongside a series of dismissals as undisclosed indiscretions come to light.

I meant at a local level involving those who get elected tomorrow. It happened last year. Rupert Lowe setting up his even more extreme party and further splitting the hard right was good news. Even reading the comments here made it worthwhile.

The Greens becoming an even more extreme party and further splitting the hard left was good news.

Although Reform doing well, i do worry about Farage's health. I know he's a closet smoker, but in recent interviews and speeches, his voice is getting very raspy and croakier. I'm not a doctor, but I just think he is showing obvious signs of increased levels of smoking.
Thanks goodness for his Security payment of £5M, because that's probably financing his habit at todays prices 😀

Just heard a commentator on the radio say Plaid Cymru don't really want independence. Not an area of knowledge here, but that was a surprise.
Because Wales can't support itself economically. Effectively Wales is seen as a pool of voters who can be bought by offering increased benefits. Plaid don't want true independence, because it's just not viable.
Welsh voters are effectively being groomed like a Bradford schoolgirl. We can't afford the vodka and cigarettes, but there are other ways to pay. 🙂
