I think Strand Larsen will come good for us. Though far too expensive.

Johnson is looking as worrying as Nketiah though nice guy Eddie was a more obviously risky signing for the money. Johnson does have a better track record on goal scoring though hard to imagine right now.

Pino I am hoping will find his feet next season. He has the skills to be successful but needs to improve consistency, physicality, temperament and like so many others ... end product!

The only balancing item is Canvot so that £23 million is looking like money very well spent but he does need to be on a longer contract this summer otherwise after next season he will only have 2 years left and that's when his value will be at it's highest. New five year deal for Jaydee should be near the top of the to do list this summer.
Fair assessment, he has been a huge bright spot from our signings

Yes I bet Johnson and JSL wouldn’t have cost us £85 million with Dougie the master negotiator still doing his stuff 😎
I cant agree with that. Freedman had no negotiating power when it came to finances. He was given a ceiling amount Parish was willing to pay. The same as the current negotiator(s) at the club

We were considerably better with him than with the current director who will soon run out of wolves duds.
We'll see. If next season Pino, JSL and Johnson are fantastic for us (which is feasible) it could be argued the current recruitment is just as good as the previous one.
Not really fair to judge players that haven't even completed a full season with the club.

It’s still hard to believe us, Crystal Palace parted with so much money in January, especially for two average at best players. So I think you’re right, Wharton may have to go, but even then I doubt we’ll be spending £85 million again, we’ll be back down to our usual of looking for bargains at around the £13 million mark
eg the true value of our Jan signings combined

We were always going to go down one day and next season is looking very likely as things currently stand.
Cant agree with that at all. Short memory. 7/8 years ago we were fighting a relegation battle every year.
Despite the hysterical pant wetters claims on here we haven't been anywhere near a relegation battle for years. We may not be improving league position year on year but we are way stronger in this division and fully established. The cup win is one of many examples of progress.
Under Parish's control we'll not be relegated. If things ever got desperate enough I believe the Americans would loosen the purse strings to kick us up the table.
Reality is we have never needed to do that so far in the last 6 years. I dont believe we'll have to.

Okay then, how about Dougie would’ve found a couple of better players for a snip of £85 million? Either way if Dougie was still here we wouldn’t have been desperate enough to spend that sort of money.
Or we might have signed another pub like Ahamada🤣 But at least he didn’t cost us £35 million

As I mentioned on another thread I think think its unfair but also pretty knee jerk to write off players as expensive flops before they have completed one full season at their new club. In Pino's case he's had to learn a new language as well as get to grips with a different culture. When you think about that I'd say he's done quite well.
If next season JSL, Johnson and Pino are flying no one will be saying they are overpriced. We all gush over Sarr and quite rightly so but everyone forgets he did not make an immediate impact when we signed him.

This is right. Nobody is beyond criticism but there is a balance here. Generally speaking our form from October has been dreadful and the attacking play as a team even more so. Can’t help the environment around the manager has been quite toxic as well

Many people writing off Canvot at Christmas and now people saying he’s a top young player. Truth as ever is he has taken time to adapt. Let’s judge once we have seen the start of next season and have a manager who wants to be here

When the club decide to go for a player they then employ professional multi-lingual negotiators to do the actual bargaining

Last season I was complacent. The standard BS about the chasm between the Prem and the Champ actually became a reality and the 3 that came up went down. It was looking looked that trend would continue. And then this season we have Sunderland and Leeds.

Wolves, West Ham and Spurs for God's sake! Did they think they would be in this mess a couple of years ago?

Our time will come. It has to. All teams out of big money (and currently one in the money) are never safe.

Next season, assuming we win this Euro competition, we will again be playing Thursdays and seeking to compete in the toughest tier one league in the world on our sustainable medium sized business model.

And I don't think we are going to be saved by any inspired purchases or players coming good either.

It is likely to be a very tough season.

100% agree.

Its right to expect the big fee players to make an impact and quick, but also makes no sense to completely write players off. Especially as Glasners system is so rigid, will take some a while to understand it.

Pretty much all of our best players were slagged off or signing questioned very early into their Palace careers. Seams to be next to no patience nowadays.

i would agree with you if it were a couple of underperforming newcomers. But apart from Canvot, i am not impressed with ALL OF THAT BIG SPENDING.

Freg Bloggs is good at something. Many Palace fans dont think Dougie has anything to apologise about. A total legend as a player, manager and Sporting Director. Who can better him? He joined a 2nd tier club in Saudi as well not even a top side.
