The expansion of Islam

Maybe you were referring to the first Crusades, but again, you're wrong, they were a reaction.

The First Crusade (1096–1099) was the first of a series of religious wars, or Crusades, which were initiated, supported and at times directed by the Latin Church in the Middle Ages. Their aim was to return the Holy Land—which had been conquered by the Rashidun Caliphate in the 7th century—to Christian rule

Christian and Muslim states had been in conflict since the establishment of Islam in the 7th century. In the span of approximately 120 years after the death of the Islamic prophet Muhammad in 632, Muslim forces conquered the Levant (including Jerusalem), as well as North Africa and most of the Iberian Peninsula, all of which had previously been under Christian rule.By the 11th century, Christians were—through the Reconquista—gradually reversing the 8th-century Muslim conquest of Iberia, but their ties to the Holy Land had deteriorated. Muslim authorities in the Levant often enforced harsh rules against any overt expressions of the Christian faith. Approximately two-thirds of land held by Christians had been conquered by Muslim forces prior to the First Crusade

I accept what you say but was more referring to the current trend to use such historical events by both the fat right (and equally the fat left) as somehow supportive of their creed/viewpoint.

It was probably clumsy on my part but I am I guess slightly fascinated by the appropriation of religion for political aims.As I said if all those who are big fans of Stephen Yaxley Lennon are such big fans of Christian church why aren't the churches over flowing every Sunday.

All regions will.seel to convert and many exploit those who they seek to recruit to their flocks.

Spindle will iron you out with history. I don’t think it’s google either. Maybe a refresh. Spindle did you study history at a high level out of interest as you come back quicker than most.

No I didn't, I just read a lot, it's a hobby. I'm weak on plenty of subjects, strong in others, but tbh this is a basic fault, a bit like Indians complaining about the empire when India was already under the rule of the (weakening) Mughal empire before the British arrived. The British built, the Mughals murdered far more.

They aren't hiding it.

Gaddafi saw it 20 years ago.

Sure, but that's population control and an entirely different argument

Maybe it is but it's a reflection on the expansionist approach of any religion. If you don't recruit (or like some of the more 'unusual American sects) or breed recruits you die out!

And Islam has been expanding for 1400 years with only occasional setbacks.

Imagine what will happen once they get control of a country which has nukes.

I often see them as well as Seventh Day Adventists outside the subway station, but I'm always secure in knowing that not one single one of them will attack you with a machete or attempt to detonate a suicide vest if you politely turn down their request for a chat or be given a pamphlet.
I would make proselytising illegal. All by anyone.

By all means publish information about your beliefs and be ready to answer questions but trying to engage people proactively is for me an invasion of their privacy. If I want to find out something I will ask but I don’t want it thrust at me.

JVs or any other door knockers, get short shrift from me.

It’s part of my belief that all religion should be kept private and not be permitted anywhere in public. For every religion on all occasions. No excuses. No exemptions.

Including the left wing nonsense that you spout?

There's no general thread for the jihadists. The religion of peace spreads itself peacefully across nations, Africa being a current silent recipient of the love from fundamentalists for example with the massacres of Christians in Mali and Nigeria.

Jews getting attacked in London this week and Manchester not long ago. Its a very worrying trend. Plus a ton of attacks in France.
