The Donald Trump thread

I that is a bit extreme, but a Trump assassination given the way he divides opinion in a open gun society has always been a possibility. I’m sure he is very aware of this and so is his protection team.
Of course - I wasn't advocating an assassination attempt. After Charlie Kirk he's doubtless even more aware of the risks.

My wife included.

That an intelligent highly educated person goes directly to this conclusion says as much about the trump media bandwagon and it's dependence on fake news while asserting fake news.

You spin so much nobody knows what to believe.

Back when trump had his ear shot the usual suspects here were peddling that it was staged....so I stand by my comment.

What drivel are you spinning today?

Starmer's reaction.

'Any attack on democratic institutions must be condemned'.

Unfit to be Prime Minister. The man is filth.

It wasn't on either occasion.

No real possibility of an amateur shooting a moving target and hitting only the ear.

It is a product of the US where loons from all parts of the spectrum have free access to arms, bizarre conspiracy pedalled as truth and informed by a nation forged in violence.

Essentially proving my point....

Of course, BBC correspondent Gary O'Donoghue was there. Did someone mention a big dinner ? 😀

In fairness to Gary, he comes across as decent enough in his explanation of what happened. It was a journalists' dinner so it's pretty apt that he was there. He looks a little overweight but he's not mobility scooter 🛵 fat like fifty percent of the rest of the population. I'm not his dad.

Sadly he is totally blind.

Lifted from Grok.....The failed assassin appears to be another left wing radical.

Public reporting, based on law enforcement briefings, his writings, campaign finance records, and social media, shows clear anti-Trump sentiments and alignment with left-leaning or anti-administration activism. Key details include:
  • Manifesto and pre-attack writings: Minutes before the incident, Allen sent family members a lengthy note (described by officials and Trump as a “manifesto”) in which he called himself the “Friendly Federal Assassin.” He explicitly stated his intent to target Trump administration officials, “prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest,” and said he would go through bystanders if necessary to reach them. He railed against the administration’s policies, citing conditions in deportation/detention camps, military strikes, the U.S. war with Iran, and other actions. He referred to Trump as a “traitor,” “pedophile, rapist,” and expressed personal “rage” at what he saw as the administration’s crimes and complicity. He argued his actions were justified and not in conflict with Christian values (claiming “turning the other cheek when someone else is oppressed” is complicity). Trump publicly described the writings as showing hatred toward Christians.

  • Political donations and voter registration: He is registered to vote in California with no party preference. His only recorded federal political donation was $25 to ActBlue (a platform used by Democrats) in October 2024, earmarked for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. He listed his occupation as a teacher on the filing.

  • Activism and social media: He had a history of anti-Trump social media posts. He participated in left-wing activism in Los Angeles, including joining “The Wide Awakes” (a social-justice activist network) and attending a “No Kings” protest in California (an anti-authoritarian/anti-Trump event). Law enforcement has cited these as evidence of political motivation.

I didn't know Donoghue was blind. I've learned something.
Trumps guards were armed with rifles in the closed environment. It makes for an impressive photograph, with big guns.
However, I thought close-protection officers were armed with hand guns because it makes the weapon much more agile in a fast-moving close environment (probably looking for input from ouzo dan).
More an observation on what appears to be a good photo-opportunity. Just lacking the stars and striped flag this time.
