Entered under a false name, wanted for murder in Egypt, asylum case refused ( unusually these days)…. I know let’s give him the right of appeal. Don’t hold your breath that he will be deported at the end of any sentence, it’s his Human Rights, you know. If you are happy for these type of people to be allowed to remain exercising appeal after appeal, that’s your perogative.I am not fully aware of the facts in this case but wasn’t his asylum claim already refused? If so presumably because of the discovery of the previous conviction. No doubt he then appealed and due process meant he had to remain whilst that had to be heard.
It might be very frustrating but as a law abiding country which provides safeguards for us this is sometimes the result. It would all be so easy if someone like this arrived with a label announcing he was a convicted murderer and he could just be sent back across to France, but it isn’t.
We are between a rock and a hard place where stories like this one can produce outrage but little of anything practical.
He was living the life of luxury in a 4 star hotel in my town, walking distance to 2 co-ed schools, one of which my daughter used to attend. Should I welcome him in my town?
