Brighton are not the enemy (nor are Millwall)

Reasons why Brighton are not our enemy:
1. The root of the argument with them is obscure, ancient, and fairly pointless
2. They are not local to us
3. They are a small club like us, punching way above their weight against all the odds
4. They are actually quite good (way above us in the league)
5. Brighton is a nice place (as is Hove)
6. The so-called rivalry gets quite nasty at times (huge police presence at games to prevent trouble) and there is enough hate in the world as it is
Our real enemies are the super-rich clubs who are just huge financial empires regularly stripping teams like Palace of all their good players (remember the big clubs who wanted to break away some years ago into a super European league so that they could protect themselves from ever getting relegated and make even more money out of supporters?) (I have to smile when looking at Spurs now in the league table).
And Millwall..... no-one likes them (but I bet they do care - perhaps they just need some love)

Just back from the Amex are you Mark ? Must admit though that I am largely in agreement with your post, though sometimes the tribal feel of Palace v the Weed is an experience.

You say there is enough hate then want to hate other clubs.
Brighton will do for me as if our owners could find a way around the numbers without punishment they would and we would be one of the super rich clubs.

A rivalry is what give fans that extra atmosphere to games , its 50+ years since ours really started , no different to man utd liverpool , Leeds man u , West ham spurs , Brighton are 35 mins away by train we are closer to them than Ipswich Norwich , Cardiff Leeds is another , Rivalry stops games being cold , and lastly go to Milwall games and try spreading your love see what happens

It's those filthy unwashed c**** from New Cross for me.
To say I hate them is too strong a word but dislike immensely will do.
No show some love to them , I do feel that you have some dislikes about them , come lie down on my couch and relax and tell me why this dislike to our fellow south londoners is in your heart 😇

I agree they are the enemy (of football) but a rivalry has to be two ways. Ask any of the big clubs what they feel about Palace and I suspect the answer is they don't care. Their rivalry is with other big clubs we simply don't count.

If you are going to have heroes you have to have villains. Brighton are our rivals as we keep bumping heads because we are similar size clubs.

Point 4 Debatable..aswe usually finish above them and we WON THE FA CUP
Point 5 Brighton is a nice place? Its a druggie infested s*** hole
Point 6 Which fans attack disabled kids and florists?

Agree about the money clubs but trying to show any affection to one of the Millwall barbarian horde is like adopting a spitting cobra - it might seem docile enough for a while but still go for you with extremely unpleasant consequences.
Personally I don't really care about Brighton but football needs rivalries and who else are we going to have? Charlton or Dulwich Hamlet?

Its hard to hate a club when a lot of your mates support them . Its more of a dark banter for me .The same goes for those spinless west London muppets and the clowns .

The thing with the weed is that they are detached from our area .We don't have any mates (well I dont) that support them ,they have followed a similar path which has seen us compete for promotions over the years ,they have been our rivals since the beginning of time .
The Mullery/Venables stuff in the 70's just spiced it up a bit , the idiotic violence of that time put a capital H into the hate .
So we are where we are a rivalry which is as keen as any other and long may it continue

I'd left school before we played Brighton for the first time, it's difficult to think of rivalry for a team we didn't play.

Different for Millwall I remember in the 60s when they were in the Holmesdale and it was far from pleasant.

We had played them about 80 times before we even entered the National division 3 ,You must be over 100 years old chris 😉

I have to say, I somewhat 'nothing' BHA. Even when it has been supposedly a bit rioutous post-match, I've always felt it was more pantomine than anything else.

I cannot however stand the so called 'big clubs' and their Disneyland approach to football. I can never take their so-called fans seriously as 'proper football fans' either.

Millwall and Charlton I kind of think of them as the backwards kid in school who dislikes you for not being so... backwards. Have to keep an eye on them however.

Hated Watford for a while, just because they hated us, but they were the equivalent of an unwelcome flying insect for me.

I don't begrudge anyone a bit of hate at a football match though, it's a useful outlet for such emotion, so long as it doesn't become a bit silly!

Didn't care for Watford because of Deeney. Now he's gone I don't care about them.

I’ve always hated Chelsea more than Brighton and I’m glad the weed gave them a good whopping last night. Although i was around when it all started and I did hate Mullery Ward Horton and Foster, My reasoning now is that I don’t know any weed fans personally, but all my in laws are plastic Chelsea fans and have always given it the biggun over the last 30 years when they’ve bought their trophies throwing Russian mafia money around

In fact it always makes me laugh when you here younger palace who couldn’t possibly have even been born in 1979 singing ‘and we will fight forever more because of Boxing Day’ 🤣
