I think, whilst he isn’t that bright, he is clever enough, with all the reality that scientific discovery has given the world, to regard all religion in the same way as most of us.

He performs his role as the head of the established church through a sense of duty, rather than belief. He has spoken of being the head of “faiths” rather than the head of a faith.

Thus reaching out to those holding other faiths is probably seen by him as also part of his duty, to heal divisions and encourage inclusiveness in troubled times.
