What an incredibly dumb point - I'm not sure I've ever claimed objectivity, or why that would be an expectation of a poster on a forum 🤣

This is worth acknowledging. America wants Iran as a viable country with a new government.
Israel under Netanyahu would happily see Iran erased from the map. That is where my support of Israel would end. That would go beyond self defence as with Hamas and become something else.

Those on here who think I would just blindly support any ally no matter what are wrong. There is a point at which our interests are not served by supporting irrational violence. Israel must keep in line with US ambitions or be cut adrift. Let's hope Trump reins them in.

So do 70% of the country and the majority in this discussion.

Even you appeared to criticise the Israeli approach to Iran just two posts later.
 
It seems positive that Trump and Israel are now talking about (not conducting) military action in the Gulf.
Israel can't function as a state, or militarily, without money and arms from the USA.

It doesn't mean that Israel will stop actions in Lebanon , or that it will expand borders elsewhere by allowing the killing and moving Palestinians off their land by Israeli militarily armed militia.

The initial objective was regime change and that has not happened I think the regime would be strengthened by stopping at this juncture, hazarding a guess I cannot see the Israeli, USA side not continuing in their quest.But with Trump involved anything can happen.

I'm acknowledging the potential for Israel to go rogue on this.

What people believe often has no bearing on what is true or sensible. Frankly we are expressing opinions without all the facts and gong on gut feelings.
Right now, my impression is that little will be gained by letting Iran off the hook or by blowing up oil and gas production.

I think stay away from social media. As a former defence analyst: this is no better or worse than all the wars you've lived through previously. It's just covered more: particularly, again, by differing substantiated/ biased/ unsubstantiated/ downright fake/ somewhat real social media. There's loads of US/Russian and Chinese propaganda - depending on the sites you visit or media you use. There is also a lot of Israeli and Arabic/ Islamic propaganda.
On my very best days, I watch Antiques Roadshow and Canal Boat Diaries. I suggest it could help you to do the same. The rolling news is so over the top. Please do not watch that. It's not news: it's all completely biased. And they are not experts - no where near.
My initial reaction is that this won't escalate as Trump is overexposed.
