For all the pant and bed wetters on here who are not yet convinced that we will be staying up, Wolves now have just 7 games left (max 21 pts = max 38 in total). 1 down 2 to go, Burnley will soon join them regarding not being able to catch us, and one out of Leeds, Spurs, Forest and W Ham will be the last to fall short of our total.

As for only the top 3 being safe - it's a load of rubbish, Teams have to play each other. If you want to work it out mathematically you have to look at all the remaining fixtures and work out who can get what bearing in mind that teams will drop 3 or 2 points in every game not won. I'm certainly not going to try and work that out.

this was before the weekend and is clearly only a prediction of results - it does have Spurs going down. However, both they and West Ham got excellent draws this weekend when predicted to lose.

I would say we need 42 points to be 99.9% confident of saying up - i still remember Oldham!

As there is also £3m per position and the middle positions are very tight a few wins should move us up a few places, assuming OG is bothered.

As you say, this was before Spurs and West Ham won points that were not predicted by the majority. Furthermore, I just realised that our next two matches are at Selhurst. I wonder how we'll all be feeling if we, as could be expected, still have 39 points with six matches remaining. I'm with you regarding 42 points and that as a minumum. That afternoon losing 3-0 at Arsenal while Oldham grabbed a win, their 3rd on the bounce after being 9 points adrift was one of the worst.

I refuse to entertain speculation regarding the moisture levels of my pants or bed, but I think we are fine.

We may not see that end-of-season flourish we often get as the focus might remain on Europe for the rest of the season (hopefully). Our league season will probably just grind and grumble along in the form of a few dull draws.

In terms of focusing on next season, though, that's obviously not easy to do. If Glasner were staying on then perhaps he could start to try out a few youngsters he rates, or give loads of game time to players who have been out injured for a while but who he thinks he'll use next season, or players he thinks we might want to place in the shop window. He isn't staying, though, so his views on these matters aren't really relevant.

Moreover, buying and selling has little to do with the manager these days and requires us to act far more in a reactive way than a planned one anyway. Very difficult to see how the remaining games can be used in a way that will be certain to help us next season, even once they become dead-rubbers.

Well, he's right. 8 games left, 24 points to play for, Spam & Notts are both on 29 points. 24 + 29 = 53, Manure, in 3rd, are on 54 points. So, mathematically, yes, the top 3 are safe.

what would be interesting is to bring up a situation that is similar in world football where a massive club has gone down.. it's like villa, they were out, what say 3 years? in that time got sold and scraped through the play offs... what would have been if they had lost that play off... they had mounting debts...
