Trump warns Nato faces 'very bad' future if allies do not help secure Strait of Hormuz​

  • Donald Trump says it would be "very bad for the future of Nato" if allies don't help secure the Strait of Hormuz - a critical waterway for global oil shipping
  • In an interview with the Financial Times, the US president says he expects China to help unblock the strait and could delay a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping if it doesn't
  • Aboard Air Force One, Trump also says he is speaking to "about seven" countries about "policing" the strait, adding that he "will remember" if they do not help
  • Meanwhile, Israel says it has begun "limited and targeted ground operations" against Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon
  • Heavy bombing has been reported in Tehran, while Iran and Hezbollah have launched missiles at Israel; Saudi Arabia says it downed dozens of drones overnight
  • Dubai International Airport, one of the world's busiest, says flights will gradually resume after a "drone-related incident" He must be told that kind of ally is unwanted.
 
Trump has completely lost it!

He starts a war at the behest of Israel that has consequences that the US military would undoubtedly have forecasted, but he thought he knew better. Then when they happen he starts to threaten allies. Who very politely push back.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with NATO. Members of NATO, alongside many others around the world, have a very strong interest in seeing the consequences of the war mitigated as quickly as possible. Will anyone actually commit resources? I doubt it myself.

There may well be an international effort to try to mediate but knowing Trump, and Netanyahu, I doubt they will even listen.

It’s a mess.
 
Ever since 1949, Nato has been stealthily creeping Eastward across Europe. Gobbling up countries every few years. And none of us voted for that. Nato initiated all the problems in Ukraine.

George Orwell warned us about a Constant Overseas War. And he was correct.

Or how bout Eastern European countries moving westwards ,and wanting to join NATO .

Putin initiated the war by invading .End of story .

Are countries forced to join NATO or do they request to join after a DEMOCRATIC vote to join ?

It's up to them. Parliament could decide. Even the Monarch could decide (I don't think any have been like that but there could have been). A president could decide. There could be a referendum. Depends on how their legislation and constitution works.

There is little point in posting this. It is all correct and obviously so. However, it will be attacked for 2 reasons.

One: you posted it.

Two: Those on here who favour the war do so because Israel and the USA are bombing Muslims. No further justification necessary.

Those eastern nations would not want to join unless it benefited them.

Yes the West (not just NATO) is complicit in the Ukrainian war. But Russia is primarily responsible. Their nationalist aspirations. Their historic need for compliant buffer states. And their feckin tanks.

To an extent.....but brown envolopes help as well. Also, taking actions that lead to war with Russia is hardly sensible and no one can say this wasn't warned about decades ago.

But apparently wars with people we don't like is just the fashion these days.

Oh....there's someone horrible.....let's bomb them.

Back in the cold war our elites were far more sensible about wars.
