Mass exodos in the summer?

Complete overhaul of the midfield required. Wharton will be held to his contract unless a silly offer comes in, unlikely to renew Kamada, Hughes is average at best, and Lerma, steady plodder but not really the future. Where is the midfield? Thanks to the club's peculiar recruitment policy of bringing in right-sided forward players for large amounts of cash the squad is unbalanced and the coffers are empty, unless of course there is a clear out and a few pennies recouped.

Contract expires this Summer!
One of the Palace journos said a few weeks ago that Hughes wants a new deal, which I think is a good thing. He's one of the few leaders we have and doesn't make a fuss if he doesn't start every game. It's always good to keep a few longer-serving players around the squad, too. I was listening to the Martin Kelly interview on the FYP Podcast, and he talks about the importance McArthur, Ward, Zaha, etc., had on the club's success at the time; players who got what it meant to represent Palace.

I share you concerns on this matter.

Although not directly on topic but referring to our overload of right-sided forward players; Uche is an option to buy once he starts 10 matches, which is unlikely, right? Guessard is straight obligation? So there's another 20-odd million gone.

My understanding is that in respect of Uche there is an OBLIGATION to purchase for £17.3 Mill after he has made 10 starts.
Apropos Guessand there is an OPTION to purchase for £28 Mill.
Perhaps my understanding is awry, I shall have to seek clarification.

Hmmm, so the opposite to what i was thinking. Not that I'm judging Guessand as a "must-have" based upon one half decent lay-off (the pass to Sarr was actually under-hit) and one decent finish but at least it's a start. On the other hand even Edouard scored twice on his debut and look how that turned out.

Lerma is going back to Colombia from what I've heard.

Kamada has already stated he will leave and not sign another deal

Uche will not be kept on and I suspect Guessand will only come in at the right price.

Only Wharton will attract serious interest I'd think. We'd do well to hold him for one more year.
Everyone else should stay. Except Kamada and Mateta, of course. But I don't even count them anymore.
I wouldn’t be sorry to see Wharton go if a £50m plus offer came in for him.
I just don’t get the hype, and this isn’t just based on the past few months where his form has dipped.(he is not alone)
There is no doubt that he can hit a killer pass when it comes off, but that is few and far between. He is also lacking mobility, physicality and can not take on players.

To caveat that, I do think he will excel if playing with a better midfield and doesn’t have the defensive responsibility currently placed on him.

The club need therefore at least two signings who are up to speed. Hughes has a deal until summer 2027, by which time he'll be 31. He's slow and clumsy in the challenge and I can imagine him coming off the bench rather than starting. Sadly I don't anticipate Doucoure ever returning to this level of competition.

I really rate Wharton but agree with what you are saying. I think the lack of movement (or at least understanding) with the front three since Eze and Olise left is telling. He seems to be taking longer on the ball, looking for options which are not there, and to use a NFL term "getting sacked" in the role of quarterback by the opposition.

Contrast that with last season and earlier this season: interchanges between Sarr/Eze/JPM up front, Munoz giving options down the right and Kamada linking up play. We got worse in all of these areas and it makes him look limited.
