Glasner Out

I also agree that OG won our first two major trophies, however if Clattenburg didn’t rob us in 2016 it could have been Pardew. Similarly if Deano gets sent off (we all know he should have) then there is no way we beat City and then not qualify for the Charity shield.
The fa cup is so hard to win especially for a team of our standing, so for that I will be forever grateful to OG, but I also recognise that we had some luck (finally) in the final.
Which only balanced out all the bad luck, some of which you mentioned, preceding that.
You make your own luck. We earned and deserved those two trophies regardless of what sour City or rival fans would like everyone to believe.

If winning major trophies is the measure then Glasner has to be our most successful manager. That doesn’t mean he’s the best. What Steve Coppell achieved with very little money and a team cobbled together was outstanding. I was in Liverpool the day we lost 9-0. To then beat them a couple of weeks later in the FA cup semifinal was a huge achievement. We should have won that final and there would be no doubt over who was best.
We then achieved 3rd place in the league and in the absence of European football won the ZDS trophy. In Wright and Bright we had the best striker force we’ve ever had. Nigel Martyn was the best keeper we’ve had and John Salako probably the most talented player we’ve had. That team was far superior to our current side and Steve was a far better coach than Ollie will ever be. He was also loyal and prepared to step in to help us on a number of occasions when managers left. No contest. He was the best by a distance .
Yeah its all about opinions but I dont agree with that. Different times and hard to compare because of that but one basic fact most would agree with is it is 100 times harder to win anything in todays football environment than it was then.

Its original name 'The Full Members' cup had in my opinion more credence than when Zenith Data Systems sponsored and renamed it.
At the time we won it this did mean something. When you look at how the importance of domestic cups has faded since Sky and the Premiership I think its fair to say the ZDS cup when we won it had around the same importance as winning the Carabao cup today.

I’d strongly disagree. The Full Members Cup was only brought in to create a new competition whilst English clubs were banned from competing in Europe (thanks to Liverpools scummy supporters).

The League Cup is WAY above the Full Members Cup in terms of prestige and importance and is second only to the FA Cup.

It was big for us at the time as it was a great Wembley day out, good to get one over Everton and a trophy, when we hadn’t won one for decades.

In your opinion and thats fine. Many fans these days have little interest in it (unless you are Newcastle or Palace and the like that are generally starved of trophies)
The Carabao cup is not craved or desired by hardly anyone until/unless said club get into the semis and see a realistic chance of winning it.
Same as the ZDS Cup in the 90s

IT would be nice to think the full memebers/zds cup had the same prestige as the old league cup. (I’m not sure it did, but happy to go with it.🤣) I agree with you that renaming the cups devalues its significance and here are some of the previous names for the old league cup.

The Milk Cup to The Littlewoods Challenge Cup, The Rumbelows Cup, The Coca-Cola Cup, The Worthington Cup, The Carling Cup The Capital One Cup and now, The Carabao.
Talk about selling out to the highest bidder.

If all the bad luck we have had over the years (also known as big club bias) was to balance itself out we would have won the premiership half a dozen times, the fa cup at least 3 more times and been champions of Europe at least twice.

... and I strongly agree with your disagreement!

I think the League Cup (forget the commercial branding) always has been and is still a top tier domestic trophy. My perception is Premier League clubs started watering down the starting elevens for it when they were in Europe.

This trend has become the norm over time. Mainly because of the commercial need to prioritize Premier League status, but also because the season has condensed, and players featuring in international tournaments have become more prevalent in England (Afcon; Copa America).

Winning it is still a big deal for all but the regular Champions League clubs. I'd love to see us get to a final in it and get over the line. Look at the reaction in Newcastle last year and you can see why.

Seeing as they hadn’t won a trophy since 1955, I’m sure they would have celebrated winning a raffle.
I wonder if they had won the zds in the 90s would they have counted that as a significant trophy? I guess it depends on what success you have had as a team.
