Romaine Esse

Just because we struck gold with Olise , Eze and Wharton doesn’t mean this will happen every time we delve into the Championship.

Would those hyping up Esse be doing this with so much vigour if he wasn’t a Palace player ( e.g if he had joined Burnley instead).

Of course young players can have varying trajectories in their developments, but there’s nothing in his career to date to suggest that he should be anywhere near our first team.
I don’t think he’s completed a match for Coventry yet, either being used from the bench or substituted when he starts.
Looking at the the report from the BBC from last weekend he was scored than less then 4 out of 10 for his contribution.
Like others, I hope he succeeds at Palace but I don’t see him as budding superstar just because he plays for Palace.

I recall having some conversations about Semenyo some while back.
Some of the messaging was that he needed to add goals to his game, that Bristol City had been working with him to take fewer touches, decision-making was his 'Achilles Heal' and that he was unpredictable producing moments of brilliance then disappoint.
He is much improved from those days !
So he got better?

I believe there's some handshaken agreement that Wharton will be sold in the summer.

He is likely to attract a high fee, so let's hope he has a good rest of the season.

Palace's midfield will largely look new by the time next season's games start.
I've not heard of that agreement - interesting.

I actually think he could benefit from another season with Palace.

Unless of course the plan is for our recent spending spree to be financed by selling him....

Sadly money turns heads particularly in the case of young people.

At work yesterday a colleague was watching a Liverpool channel which claimed Wharton has already agreed a five year deal to sign in the summer.

The comment was in relation to his move to Coventry. Might have been the Millwall game. If you didn't see it, it was impressive and the sort of skill that would be useful against weaker low-block teams: something we have struggled with in the Conference League in particular
Ok no haven't seen it , I do get updated on him by 2 coventry fans that drink in my pub , who are season ticket holders , there becoming very frustrated with him doing things at the wrong time , also I check the Coventry site to see the general overview , he started off well now some are saying see why palace offloaded him , so he needs to step up to next level he is 21 this year , so next year before he is 22 needs to be more consistent and stronger and pass and dribble at the right time , So he has alot of hardwork ahead

Coventry's form has fallen off a cliff since Esse started playing for them, any coincidence!

Lol no most of there players have lost form I'm reliable informed
This is where Lampard really needs to earn his money. They were 9 points clear at the top at one stage and will not have a better chance to cruise back into the PL.

If he screws this up his stock will fall dramatically and he’ll probably end up as our new manager 😱

Quite funny to be comparing Esse to Wharton. Ridiculous really. Ok, both came from Championship football, so there's a commonality. Both have completely different roles within the team framework however, so their particular skill set has no relation for comparison. Nevertheless one made the step up to the Premiership successfully, so much so he got called up for international duty. The other stepped up, and then had to step back. Some may say he never really got the chance to prove himself, but the reality is that there are many outside factors to deal with, but ultimately when the opportunity to shine comes along one has to take it.

There is no rush with Esse.

Assuming we sign Guessard, we have 4 'wide 10s' so Esse isn't going to be getting any game time.

He needs to spend some time on loan and get minutes under his belt.

When Wharton, Eze and Olise signed, they were among the best players in the championship. Not a guarantee of course, but until Esse gets to that level, he's not really a first team consideration IMO.
