Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham after just under eight months in charge following a dismal 2-1 defeat at home against Newcastle on Tuesday.

Spurs are 16th in the Premier League and just five points above the relegation zone after a dreadful run of form.

The north London side are winless in their past eight Premier League games - their longest run without a victory since October 2008.

They have won just two of their past 17 league matches and picked up only 12 points in that time.

Tottenham said they had been "determined to give Frank the time and support needed to build for the future together", but recent results meant "a change at this point is necessary".

Frank took over as head coach in June after Ange Postecoglou was sacked and signed a deal until 2028, but proved unable to notably improve the club's league form despite strong results in European competition.

Against a mixed Premier League record of seven wins, eight draws and 11 defeats this season, the Dane led Spurs to automatic qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League by finishing fourth in the group stage.

However, they are out of both domestic cup competitions, having been beaten by Newcastle in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in October and Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round last month.

"Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward," a Tottenham statement read.

"We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future."

Feel sorry for him. He started well, even though a lot of people were on his back from day one. Just like last season they’ve struggled with injuries, but they looked like a much improved team early under Frank. He leaves the club one spot above last season and still fighting in the Champions League where they’ve been a force.

He’s a top manager. So was Ange. They are both very different but in the end produced roughly the same thing. There are problems at Spurs that will and have held back numerous managers all of different styles, qualities, and demeanours.

I know he has a lot of fans on here, more from the job he did at Brentford, and I am one of them. He’s been mentioned for us and he’s gotta be one of the favourites for our job in the Summer you’d have to think.

Good at Brentford, shocking at Spurs. No wins in 8 and 2 wins from 17, they had to sack him. Their worst manager in prem history statistically.

He may be our new coach in the summer. He is similar to Glasner in approach.

I think he could do reasonably well for us, but I doubt he has a higher ceiling than OG. We'd be mid table probably.

i bet ya the new manager at Spurs will also make a bollix of it. It seems to be a kinda toxic club. Certainly in terms of careers and ambition. It's like an oversized Everton. Everton flout with relegatin every year.....but it never really happens. Spurs flout with the top end of the table.....but it never really happens.

what a shyte club........i prefer a little entertainment & terror with my football.

We seemed toxic under Roy last time round. United toxic with Amorim and EtH...

Losing games any club can become toxic really

I think Ange left there on a high, probably could have got a bigger job but took the Forest job which was mad in hindsight

How was we toxic ever under Roy.

Every season the guy was at the club we was mid table.

Yes a lot of us didn't agree with the football etc but this guy had hardly any resources like other managers and when he did have some better quality player we did start to play better football at times.

Ange was rubbish he has been proven he's not a Prem manager and they did well in Europa due to other teams they played really wasn't very good and that was his main focus.

It's not the manager that are toxic most of the time its the uppers.

How high is Forest’s rep in Australia? I think romanticism played a part.
