US Politics

They can, but they are still bound by it both before, and after, any changes.
Not at all. They, in theory, can pass a law that says they are not bound by the law. They are already allowed to say things in Parliament that would lead to prosecution if said in public.

Politicians. One set of rules for them, and a different set of rules for everybody else. Two Tier is an international phenomenon.

In other words, they should have only accepted it if they got the result they and you wanted.

They didn't fail the majority who voted to leave. You interpret democracy as it suit you as I previously said.
It's pathetic Wisbech. You should seek help. It's borderline psychotic.

A vast amount of money was spent on the Remain campaign and yet Leave still one. For once, the majority actually got what they wanted instead of what self serving politicians decided was good for them.
They should have done their job as representatives. They aren’t delegates. Which is why referendums are not part of our democracy.

Consulting the people to know how they feel is ok, but deciding to act on a referendum which was subjected to so much outside influence over an event like Brexit, the consequences of which became much clearer as time passed and the complexities emerged, was irresponsible.

Parliament is elected by us to represent our interests and take decisions on our behalf. They aren’t there to reflect the interests of press barons or Russia. There is no role for advertising campaigns or newspaper headlines. Just well informed representation free of outside pressures.

That’s far from any kind of psychosis. It’s a simple explanation of our democracy.

Brexit represents a failure of our democracy. Not a triumph of it.

The sooner our MPs begin to recognise that and reverse it the better. No referendum. Just a vote in Parliament.

Yet another reason for making sure Reform decline as quickly as they have grown.

Here's a thought, perhaps if the government had given the public a chance to voice their objections at any of the various 'power grabs' that the EU did during the forty years since we joined a free trade block, then maybe there wouldn't have been a cliff edge situation with a Brexit vote. The public wanted it, the establishment didn't. The establishment lost. Accept it and make the most of it, you know, like you tell us to embrace the multicultural change that we are experiencing.

No worries about full - on phychopathic Trump, though.

Of course not. Heheh.

With respect, a dreadful suggestion. To fly in the face of a democratically arrived - at plebiscite is just not on. Either we adhere to democracy, whether we like it or not, or we're lost, in my opinion.

So what about the referendum in 1975 to remain in the EEC. That shouldn't have happened?
It's not the referendum you object to, it is the result.
Whilst I didn't like the result (living in Greece it has made it much more complicated) and could foresee that having the poor quality of parliamentary candidates available in the UK was going to be a disaster for the country, I'm at least willing to accept the result and whatever that brings.

Switzerland have referendums almost yearly and the quality of life seems pretty good.

If I was to sum up the political history of this country over the last 1000 years it would probably be this:

Like most countries the elite hold the reigns of power and wealth and will not give them up. However unlike the French and Russian nobility they realised that refusing to adapt will ultimately destroy you when the people finally rise up.

We had our civil wars and after all that bloodshed and fight for democracy what changed, nothing.

We had "King" Cromwell and then the Glorious Revolution where the new King transferred power to the middle class elites in Parliament in return for funding his wars against the French. There was no democracy.

Then over the next two hundred years every time it looked like there would be a real revolution Parliament gave in just enough to take the steam out of the anger. Each time we were given the semblance of democracy the elites held onto the real power.

Today we still have the uni party, they control how judges are elected and how we are policed, they pass laws most people don't want and wont pass laws people do.

The Brexit referendum was an aberration as the pro EU camp were so arrogant and complacent they though they could see off Farage with a public vote. What really gets up the Brexiteers noses is they had everything going for them the entire establishment from the government to the unions and big business all backing the EU.

They got the shock of their life when the people told them to stuff it. The Sage of Truro is right on one thing we will not get another referendum. Not it is quite clear that Parliament will claw us gradually back into the EU, year after year with minor changes, with all the BS that this will not impact the referendum result.

They made a mistake they will not repeat it.

The most comprehensive, detailed, minute by minute account of that incident can be found here. It’s factual and suggests that Renée Good wasn’t even intending to protest. If, after reading this, you still think that she was killed in self defence then my only conclusion will be that you must be off your rocker:-

Yeah, but he won't read it if it's "TL" haha. Doesn't have the concentration to talk about the finer details; much easier to just slag someone off as "Liar".

Worthless contributor.

And we still absolutely adore the monarchy.

As one woman said to me recently: "I like the continuity".

Well, it's nothing if not that.

Our so called Democracy: We are not allowed to vote on any of the below.

Head of State
Head of The government
Primaries for MPs and other elected officials
Public vote to force a General Election
House of Lords
Public Honours e.g. knighthoods (corrupt system)
Judges
Public initiated referendums

And
Freedom of Speech, not guaranteed, and in my lifetime has been eroded by so called Human Rights laws.

Some democracy

You forgot the death penalty, I'm presuming?

See who his post responded directly to.
Would it hurt you to just say who it was?

Had I not had Dan on ignore, it would have been obvious.

It can be apparently

I want to see governments call out their paymasters, the multi Nationals who are running the show and contributing knob-all to our economy. Their only aim is profit, no matter what cost.

They wish to pay the absolute bare minimum tax, thrive on paying meagre wages - (zero-hours contracts: don't you love 'em?) and play governments off against each other, thereby gaining privileges when they site their factories or whatever here. Politicians in their pockets under the guise of 'lobbying'. Yeah, right.

They must be laughing their cocks off seeing the hoi poloi fighting amongst themselves while the profits are squirreled away in tax havens.

Wonderful.

But I suppose that's just 'leftie' and 'commie' talk, isn't it?
