Squad for the rest of the season

Even with this so called stronger squad I’m still not in the “we will now start winning and move up the table camp”
We for lots of reasons have been awful for a couple of months now. Our last 2 matches with Sarr and Munoz back have given us 1 point with that point coming against just 10 men. Thank goodness the pen was scored. Our team and especially the gaps between the two wingbacks have been sussed. I hope new players and returning ones do strengthen us but I’m not expecting results changing much in the near future :-(

I am aligned to this thinking.

Worst case scenario - we carry on breaking records of time without a win, new signings and the departures leave the team looking unrecognisable from last season and without identity, a couple more injuries perhaps, OG gets the belated sack and we're stuck in the bottom three, rudderless and directionless, desperately needing points from the last few games to stay up.

We've looked awful, leaderless and listless for some time now, and I don't see that miraculously changing overnight.

I think that sums up our current form since Fulham away perfectly

But you know what we’re like, most seasons we’ve had spell or spells where we can’t see where the next win is coming from and suddenly we win two or three on the bounce and alls well with the world again.

I can't bring myself to cling to that much hope Monkey, however I am aware of this!

on paper our squad is definitely stronger in the attacking positions than it was a month ago but i still have a few concerns.

Of the team that started last week 3 players are still finding their feet - Sarr (after Afcon absence), Riad and Munoz (after injuries) so they will take time to get up to speed.

Of the new recruits it's clear that Johnson was bought when his confidence appears to be shot - barely playing for either club or country. His impact has been almost zero so far.
Similarly, Larsen has been benched and scored 1 league goal all season is hardly coming in with his confidence sky high.
I suspect Guessand might be similar (and if we had got McNeil in, he could be added to this list!)

Add this to Pino who has been struggling for the last month or so that's 4 forward players who are out of form. Not a good combination.

Hopefully OG can work his magic in training but he seems to have zoned out too - his comments after the dreadful 2nd half on Sunday was a little bizarre - respect the point etc.

Of the forward line I see Larsen replacing Mateta and Johnson being used as backup/replacement for Sarr.
Can Guessand play on the left? Maybe he's an upgrade on Uche as an impact sub.

I still don't see many goals in our top 3, regardless of who plays

I agree. If Larson gets off the Mark against Brighton and we get a win from nowhere the outlook will seem rosy again.

These ups and downs is what being Palace is all about….and why that FA Cup win was oh so special!

Up the Palace!

Training session pics were interesting:

  • JSL obviously in a lot (speaks English, Spanish and I think French)
  • Guessand in a few including shooting at the end
  • Nketiah looks healthy
  • Kamada is in training (although I don't think he's doing all the drills, it looks like he's in goal at the end of the drills - didn't stop any, Hendo shouldn't be worried)
  • Mateta is not in any of the pictures or video

I think that extra 5% motivation from Glasner makes all the difference in his system and it’s only hope that says he can regain some form of love for the job to inspire that.
The make or break of our season comes on Sunday. Lacklustre and I do not see how Ollie can keep the job.

Successful and it’ll be a springboard for back to mid table and who knows, perhaps a memorable season after all with the ECL

JSL, speaking so many languages???
Hope he was not taught by a certain Roy Hodgson!!

We have had worse runs in the PL. In separate seasons in the 1990's we went 15 without a win and 9 without scoring. Both seasons we were relegated and if we don't win at least one of the next three we could be headed on the same course

Change the record, Robbo. Bar a handful of games in two seasons, the guy has been tosh for us. He'll be off with Glasner at the end of the season and in three years, no one will remember his name.

Same to you bud. We've been absolutely rubbish since he's been out. So disjointed.

He might well be be off, and lots will be cheering. Hoping for a terrier of a centre mid (like Hughes or Lerma) that will confine us to the lower part of the table.
