Squad for the rest of the season

One problem is how many players want to risk damaging their careers by coming to a club in freefall that may end up being relegated?

Any players coming in on loan may well be no better than what we have otherwise they'd be regular 1st team players at their own clubs.

As far as CDs go, if Glasner does stay till June then we may well have to rely on Riad (preferably) and Canvot as the 3rd CD if Lerma is needed for DM duties. If Glasner goes and the new/interim manager reverts to a back 4 then the need for an emergency CD loan disappears IMO.

As for a striker, we could bench JP and use Sarr as the CF with Pino and Johnson as the 10s. I don't see us picking up a quality striker in this window. We might go for Cherif but that would be more for the future unless he miraculously hits the ground running when given a chance.

The transfer widow closes a week today and I can well see us waiting till we know the Forest result. Lose or draw that and we may do one or two last minute deals on the Monday. Win it and the board may decide to stick and see the season out with what we've got.

As we haven't beaten Forest in the seven games we've played them since they were promoted, I expect last minute business.

The big question, of course, is how long the Board will allow this current winless run to continue before biting the bullet and removing Glasner?
It may be that - as from the hour on after Riad had to go off - OG will opt for 4-3-3 going forward. He's on record as saying that he actually prefers the formation to 3-4-3. It would make more sense of the window, You were right about the Forest game seeming to spur action!! I still think the sideways passing was as per manager's instructions. I think that though adapting to new signings, returns to fitness and maybe major changes in formation and tactics will involve some more pain by the start of next months we will be back to winning ways. A coach with a new job to find and several players who've made it clear they'd fancy a move couldn't be said to be unmotivated.

Goalkeepers: Henderson & Benitez
Right wing backs : Munoz and Clyne
Left wing backs : Mitchell and Sosa
Centre backs : Riad, Lacroix, Richards & Canvot
Centre mids (no 6's ) Wharton, Hughes, Lerma and Kamada
Attacking mids ( no 10's ) Sarr, Pino, Johnson, Guessand & Devenney
Strikers : Strand Larsen, Mateta, Uche and Nketiah

Probably could do with another centre back but looks a lot better than it did at one stage in the transfer window. On the last training video before the Forest game Nketiah and Kamada were on the training pitch so presumably are not far away. Devenney is out for a while with ankle ligament damage.

How is it possible to be failing due to late paperwork (Dwight McNeil from Everton), when we have known all along the deadline of the transfer window?
Same old story, I think if I could sit down with SP it would be top of my list of things to ask him.
I should imagine McNeil was available at the start of January for the right price. Not that I’m overly fussed about missing out on him, it did seem a desperate one. But I’m sure like many others, I’d love to know why we leave things so late EVERY window.

Just Parish making some noise .He seems to love the drama of deadline day .I reckon Sky should pay him seeing as we seem to be the club that's always at the centre of goings on . Given the fees being suggested you can't even say it's a ploy to get a bargain .

We probably should have another CB especially if OG persists with three at the back and is here for the rest of the season. It’s not too bad though as Lerma can play CB and so can Clyne at a push. Right now I’d argue Lerma doesn’t get in our best midfield two but does get in our best back three

It's just a ruse, there is never any intention to make the signing. If they wanted the paperwork to go through on time in would go through on time. Or does the team turn up late for kick off every game...

Does this involve a carer?

It does seam a bit odd. Maybe with JP not happening and us changing it from a purchase to a loan, it was more that the fine details couldn't be agreed in time (hence paperwork not completed).

In reality the outlets dont really know anything. They made it sound like Guehi went down to the wire, but it was called off late afternoon. Hence the outrage when Parish was spotted in the gym!

So what you’re saying is he’s an attention seeking whore 🤣
Without doubt , it does make it all a bit more interesting for us fans though even if we have grown accustomed to the end result .
We didn't even get the Larsen conformation until the window closed when he had obviously signed sometime earlier because Wolves had signed a couple of players on the back of the sale

Now that feels like a pretty good squad. Especially when you consider that there is also some positional flexibility there. With the front line, it feels like the first time in forever where we've got options.

I'd personally still would have liked a experienced CB on loan for cover. And a young creative CM (Smitt, Sano etc).

I wasn't sure which thread to post this in, mods please move if you feel it would be better elsewhere.

I've just received the following from the Athletic. I'm not sure who Phil Hay (who wrote the article) is, but he clearly doesn't like us:

Palace Crumbling?

Feel-good story is fast becoming a nightmare

The morning after the night before, as the dust settles on the transfer deadline, is when we get to talking about who won and lost the window just gone. With your leave, I’d like to chat about Crystal Palace.

For much of 2025, Palace made us feel fuzzy and warm; a less fashionable Premier League team made good. But January killed the romance. The final hours of the transfer window encapsulated their newfound oddity, and recent results have left them facing a relegation battle.

To recap, in the past month, Palace have…

Much has happened since they picked up Brennan Johnson for £35m, and yesterday encapsulated the chaos. First, Jean-Philippe Mateta — transparently keen to get out of Selhurst Park — saw a move to Milan collapse after issues with his medical. Capable forward though he is, Mateta must be elsewhere mentally.

Regardless, Palace bought Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £43m — a club-record deal that Mateta was supposed to fund in part — but then attempted to throw another £20m at Everton’s Dwight McNeil through a loan-with-obligation offer. They jumped for McNeil so late that they ran out of time to complete the paperwork.

It’s an almighty soap opera and there's no knowing where this is heading. As Matt Woosnam reflected recently, the Premier League’s feel-good story has lurched into night terrors. I’m not in any way saying this is Woody Johnson’s fault but since he bought into Palace, the New York Jets force has been strong.

Sellers delay transfers to get a better price from desparate buyers and visa versa. Mateta not going left a 40m hole in the finances so nay have been a factor. McNeil could have made it easier by slapping in a transfer request on 1st Jan but players dont because they/there agents are greedy.

Thanks Steve😃

But seriously it all makes sense what you say
