He asked the club to leave 2 weeks before window closes , he is his own worst enemy done earlier and would have known 2 weeks ago if someone would take a risk

We will never know who decided that Mateta could continue without surgery. It clearly wasn’t critical and I suspect Mateta felt that he needed to continue playing to give him the best chance of playing in the World Cup and Glasner felt he needed his main striker. Glasner won’t be upset to have 2 centre forwards suited to his system though my guess is SL will be first choice now.
I assume the money from selling Mateta was allowing SL plus a centre back or wing back. We’ve not had a bid accepted for either and the money is no longer available so there will be a SL video shortly but that’ll be it for this window. Glasner will not be pleased about that.

Ironic that JP wanted to go to Milan to help get to the World Cup, now he’ll likely be sat on the bench so wont make the squad. Silly boy

Mateta has obviously been struggling lately so was his injury the problem or just attitude? Maybe both.

If he can play then he should be competing with Larsen. If not, then he needs to get the operation done immediately if that can fix his problem. We need him to be worth something come the summer.

Parish doesn't want to be in a relegation battle and he has got the cheque book out.

The calibre of players might be debatable but the intention cannot be criticised. He needed to spend and he has.

His value will plummet even with surgery which isn't great for us. He'll need to prove his fitness and Italian clubs don't have big cash to splash, so you may be right with a move to somewhere like Turkey or back to France?.

A I mentioned earlier in the thread, it's the psychology that gets me. Mateta has been poor for most of the season, certainly a million miles off what he produced the season prior, but why? What happened to him? Ignoring an injury that needed sorting? Greed? Is he even dimmer than he appears? Listens too much to his agent? He wants to play in the World Cup and for whatever reason wanted away from the club, while still carrying the dodgy knee. None of it makes sense, and quite clearly he doesn't have the capacity to think through his actions and where they will take him, because now he won't be going to the World Cup, will probably be put out to pasture by the club as a disruptive influence, and will have to have surgery if he wishes to continue his career.
As I mentioned, he's not been quite the same since that Millwall incident.
