Christantus Uche

I really liked what I've seen from Uche but, also, I think I am naturally more inclined to like exciting players having been raised watching the likes of Zaha, Bolasie, McAnuff, Routledge, Olise, Eze etc for us. However, if he isn't working hard enough, or sticking to the gameplan set out by Glasner then he shouldn't play, same for Esse, and I think there isn't a single fan with the right to question Glasner's decision making at this point.

In terms of overall recruitment, it's impossible to get 100% success. No club does it and, if they did, they'd win everything.

Overall I think we get far more right than wrong. I mean, the £160m+ raised from selling Wan-Bissaka, Olise and Eze alone has more than paid for the missteps in Uche, Esse, Ahamada and whoever else. Guehi was another absolute bargain, even if we'll get no financial return on him, and presumably Wharton will go for £80m+ at some point too.

Our position in the table tells us that we get far more right than wrong and, to be honest, the only loss that I think will absolutely devastate us will be Glasner. And I really hope that he signs a new deal so we have a couple more years of him, as am concerned that the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and United might see him as a potential option in the coming months.

Agree with all of that.

I think Uche is the kind of player Hodgson may have relished, where his philosophy was making us a disciplined and hard to break down defensive unit that relied upon some fortune or individualistic talent (Wilf) at the other end of the pitch.

Glasner is seemingly capable of working with the whole unit (all XI), favouring a methodology which needs all the cogs aligned and operating effectively. This may be where players like Uche and Esse don't fit in. They may have something individualistically, but if they cannot adapt that to exist as part of the whole, they'll be surplus to requirements or rather evidently, are.

We are the Borg. You will be assimilated, or you won’t play.

We really don’t need to keep him. If he was at a similar club to us, making a few substitute appearances, none of us would want to sign him.

He’s no good, but appears a bit less sh*t than he actually is, when you compare him to ‘the king of the 2 bobs’ ,which ‘the artist formally known as Boom Boom’ currently is.

We need to keep Chris Uche he's got quality and needs game time.

Afraid JP's head has been turned more times than Nookie Bear, move him on now

After all thhis turmoil and once again, nearing the end of a transfer window with little done, we should sell JPM (if we already have a replacement signed). Would not mind Wilson from Fulham, but think it is very unrealistic. Strand Larsen from Wolves, not so sure about that one!

Thanks that made me smile

The price quoted for Larsen seems a bit nuts compared to what he's done in the Premiership.

Uche, hasn't been allowed to stake a claim, then again we have to buy him after ten appearances and it appears Glasner doesn't rate him. So you either back his judgement or don't.....We know the Roy got it wrong with that Norway striker whose name escapes me.

35 million for Metata is a good enough valuation for me, but you'd need a replacement that justifies letting him go before the end of the season.....Our squad size isn't big enough.

Whilst I accept he’s had limited opportunities, nothing I’ve seen suggests to me he’s worth retaining - I don’t think he’s added anything at all to the team.

14 league goals in Larsen’s debut season is pretty impressive, but you’re right it is a big fee being quoted.

The fact he’s only 25 and got 4 or 5 years left on his contract is a big factor in that.

He’s not a striker and he’s not a winger. I put him in the Schlupp mould, a strong attacking midfielder who has decent pace but ultimately doesn’t appear to have the guile for the PL.

He doesn’t really fit into our current set up but that’s not to say that if a new manager came in and we played 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 he might be suitable.

I think he won’t meet his threshold for having to purchase but we may hang on long enough until a new manager has assessed him, unless as usual we are last minute.com with our new manager and we’ve already handed him back.

Sorloth. Has cored everywhere else he has played and is still scoring for Athletico Madrid. Another p,Ayer, for whatever reason, we didn’t give enough game time

I have no idea if Uche is any good and not sure how so many on here can be certain he isn’t given how little we’ve seen of him. Bottom line is our current coach doesn’t rate him so the discussion is academic. He’ll head back to Getafe in the summer and go on to better things.

Probably return and possibly on to better things.
Mateta joined us on loan in Jan 2021, He wasn't given a run of starts until Dec 23 when Edouard got injured in the Liverpool home game and Hodgson had no other choice. He began to look half decent in the two months before Hodgson 'retired' and then when OG came he really took off with the interplay with Eze and Olise. Strikers (even the best ones - ask Shearer) need a run of games to show their best and Uche hasn't been given that chance, presumably because OG doesn't rate him. Yes, Uche is a raw talent who can look a bit of a bull in a china shop in both penalty areas but I haven't seen enough of him to assert that he won't make a decent striker. One thing I will say about him is he doesn't lack enthisiasm when he's on the pitch - he wants to be involved.
