Squad for the rest of the season

I see a number of issues to be dealt with up until the end of the window.
It looks like we're already factoring in Glasner's departure in our planning which is understandable
Apparently we're no longer looking to bring in an additional RWB and are only looking at a short term (loan?) Guehi replacement.
Presumably it's seen that there's little point bringing in players to suit Glasner's system if he's not here next season.

I've heard no concrete news on return dates for Nketiah and Kamada.
I saw an intitial report that Nketiah would be out for 6 weeks, but that was a few weeks ago and to my knowledge has not been substantiated.
I saw a return date for Kamada of mid February, but again not substantiated.

My assumption at this stage is that Mateta will stay for the rest of the season as no club will meet the terms .

In my view the most pressing need is for a powerful forward capable of playing across the front 3.
We have looked toothless now for a couple of months, although part of this is attributable to the absence of Munoz and Sarr.
We need goals, particularly since we won't have the mean defence we had at the beginning of the season in the absence of Guehi.
We're strongly linked with Cherif, but that's a gamble and surely one for the future in any event.
We need impact now for the rest of the season.
I read we had approached Calum Wilson as a potential free agent, but he's now staying at West Ham
We've also been linked with midfielders which I don't think is a priority for this season as we're well covered, although it will need addressing next season.

Considering all of the above I think we're not going to do much for this window and will gamble that we can get enough points for this season, with major activity in the summer under a new manager.
In short I think we will add another forward and short term centre back at most.
I'll let others judge if that would be enough.

One problem is how many players want to risk damaging their careers by coming to a club in freefall that may end up being relegated?

Any players coming in on loan may well be no better than what we have otherwise they'd be regular 1st team players at their own clubs.

As far as CDs go, if Glasner does stay till June then we may well have to rely on Riad (preferably) and Canvot as the 3rd CD if Lerma is needed for DM duties. If Glasner goes and the new/interim manager reverts to a back 4 then the need for an emergency CD loan disappears IMO.

As for a striker, we could bench JP and use Sarr as the CF with Pino and Johnson as the 10s. I don't see us picking up a quality striker in this window. We might go for Cherif but that would be more for the future unless he miraculously hits the ground running when given a chance.

The transfer widow closes a week today and I can well see us waiting till we know the Forest result. Lose or draw that and we may do one or two last minute deals on the Monday. Win it and the board may decide to stick and see the season out with what we've got.

As we haven't beaten Forest in the seven games we've played them since they were promoted, I expect last minute business.

The big question, of course, is how long the Board will allow this current winless run to continue before biting the bullet and removing Glasner?

Possibly 21 Feb for Kamada but no date given for Nketiah.

Regarding CB's, yes we might just be ok, given that either Riad & Canvot will unlikely be mistake-free. As for a quality striker whatever that means but certainly not those being touted around with us "having an interest". A quality striker i.e. proven, is definately a) out of price range, b) wouldn't come in the current circumstances or c) somewhat more relevant at the beginning of a window, wait until other offers come in, which makes me wonder why Johnson was in such a hurry to sign!?! Anything else is a risk either on a young player with potential, which of course can work or usually not work out or someone who simply wants a different environment but has never really delivered (Eddie). Glad i'm not running the show.

oh, and i see that Fulham appear to be busy strengthening an already good squad. Maybe somebody should start a conversation in the media that Silva hasn't signed a new contract yet then sit back and watch while they implode as well

Or release a mongoose at Craven Cottage. That'll keep him away.

Callum Wilson may be well past his best but with Mateta having the highest xG in the league (and probably highest fluff rate), even an over the hill Callum Wilson would be loving his time with us.

Should be team for Forest,
Henderson
Muñoz, Richards, Lacroix, Mitchell
Pino, Hughes, Lerma, Devenny
Sarr, Johnson
That looks quite a well balanced team.
Workmanlike in midfield with pace up front.
The reservation I have relates to vulnerability at defensive set pieces where Mateta is quite useful.
You can have the better of a game and lose on a set piece.

Our own manager said he hadn't and wouldn't sign a contract. Not the media. There is quite a big difference. If a manager comes out and says no way he's staying, I don't see how they can last. It's just drifting.

I think having all the players playing in there normal positions is probably ridiculous, but fair point about the set plays
