Guehi replacment?

I’m really struggling to understand how we don’t have a Guehi replacement lined up for this January window. We knew he was going in the summer so presumably have been shortlisting options A, B, C and D for several months. The finances in selling him in Jan made sense for a club of our statue and I supported the early sale but maybe I was being optimistic but I expected us to have his replacement (and by replacement I know that we wouldn’t get like-for-like but I mean a CB who is a solid squad player) lined up and ready to slide into the team - yet judging by the lack of transfer activity so far it feels like this has clearly not been the case, either by intention or not. Are the club just holding back funds for the new manager to spend, are we finding it harder to sign players with the manager declaring he’s leaving in the summer or have we simply fallen victim to poor transfer planning?

Apologies if I should have posted this in the transfer section. Just interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.

We do. It is and always has been Chadi Riad.

Whether he is an adequate replacement, your guess is as good as mine but he is the player that CPFC have bought.
And Glasner rates him very highly. Lets remember Barca had him on loan at Betis was it? They did not want to sell him. When a club wants to hold on to a player even when he cant get in their team its a sign that he has quality. Lets get him 100% fit and a run in the team. I've a feeling he'll be great for us

I’m scarred by the whole Connor Wickham and Nathan Ferguson episode(s).

I’d love Doucoure & Riad to be back playing and ever present but I’m just nervously expecting the worst 😞

So we've replaced a top class England International with someone who basically hasn't played for a year. We don't even know if he's any good even if he is highly rated.
Long term it might be ok but we are in trouble now. I can't see how this is going to help us anytime soon.

Yes he’s hardly played. His last meaningful run of games was on loan at Betis. To put it in perspective he has played about the same number of senior games as Canvot and last kicked a ball competitively around 18 months ago. At the age of 22 he’s spent as much time time injured as he has playing at senior level.

He could be good but at this stage he’s basically a complete shot in the dark and should be behind Lacroix, Richards, Lerma and Canvot. A starting replacement for Guehi he is absolutely not.

Rumours that Guehi replacement will be a short term loan to end of season,
That makes sense given that both Riad and Canvot were brought in for the role of Guehi's replacement. Had Riad not had such a bad injury we'd know by now whether or not he was PL standard but hopefully, we'll get some idea before the season is out.

As has already been said, if the new manager goes with a back four then we probably won't need to buy a replacement.
