Mateta

For avoidance of doubt at this juncture I am not furnished with the information as to the reasons for Mateta's desire to leave the club.
Perhaps he sees a crumbling edifice and wants to exit before the building is raised to the ground.
It is possible that he is totally disillusioned with the club, has lost his motivation and believes he needs a new environment and challenge to rediscover his form and mojo.
It's equally possible that since he'll be 29 before next season he's trying to cash in while he can.

it could be one of them niggly injurys that cant be corrected on the table and gets better with rest rather than a op
If that’s the case we need to send him home on bed-rest. Either way it amounts to the same thing, a month out and a month of games for Uche.

It is a relief to hear from Glasner he didn’t hand in a transfer request… even if he doesn’t want to sign a new transfer and we are open to selling under the right circumstances we could really do without a desperate need to sell an unhappy player.

Pedant alert: Razed to the ground. Heheh.

Glasner indicated that Mateta will play tomorrow.
With that in mind the question is who plays either side of him.
My choice would be Sarr and Johnson to provide some pace and impetus to get behind the Chelsea defence.
I also think James (if starting)will eat Pino for breakfast should he come up against him on our left side.
However, I expect Glasner to start Pino with Sarr and Johnson competing for the other place.

It looks like we may be out of the bidding for Strand Larsen.
It will be interesting to see what the club does if a suitable bid comes in for Mateta.
I wonder if it would be similar to the Guehi and Eze scenarios where players are let go without a replacement in place.
I know some say the club isn't in a position to buy until we sell, but I have another take.
If we did sell Mateta for e.g £35 million and we approached a club for a player to replace Mateta it may well be that player becomes expensive as the selling club know we are desperate and have funds for a replacement.
