Romaine Esse

Here is what Frank Lampard said after Coventry beat Millwall:
Coventry boss Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:

He [Romain] came to see me after Leicester and he wanted a little rundown of the game, which was great. I love that, he's engaging and he wants to score more goals.

"For a modern winger, it's really important because we know he's got talent, a huge talent, one v one, the things he can do for us are different.

"People expect there's a magic potion to get goals. But if you're in and around it, you'll get your chances and it was brilliant for him to score. I was really pleased to see him score against his old club and he deserved that.
Maybe he is learning , yes the hardway but if he respond's and goes ok I really need to knuckle down now , that can only work in our favour and his . he has dropped only 1 league not 3 so theres still hope , to many bright talented players stop putting the hardwork in to be good to great players , and end up playing for 6th 7th tiers teams , some just end up sunday lge , and I have played against some of them in the old days , lets see if he maintains it

Thats great to hear, good on him.

And to be fair there isn't many better people to learn from, in the art of being in the right place at the right time.

..and he keeps Pino on for most of the games? OK, he scored our two last goals (beauties as well), but his contribution otherwise is horrible. Always runs into trouble and seldom hits a team mate with his pass, but stay on the pitch.
It's strange, Pino is guilty of the same errors that Esse made, but has had far much more game time to make them, which shows that Esse can't be fairly judged on the very limited game time he has had.
The conclusion I've come to is that Glasner is extremely rigid, has his favourites, and lacks the talent for improvisation.

Add in Kamada and Devenny who haven't done badly but have had a lot more leeway than Esse as well. Even Sosa gets his chances and hasn't so far shown much but escapes public criticism.
Maybe it's just a clash of personalities.

Good start for Esse , I’m old enough to remember Ian Wrights floundering start to his Palace career , Luckily the club ignored the barracking fans and a star was born , Have a good feeling about Esse like I did about Wright , Think it’s a matter of game time and good coaching to improve his first touch and game awareness .

And the conclusion that I have come to is that anything and everything is now Glasners fault !

Pino has been underwhelming. When we signed him it was rumoured that Glasner didn't think he would be a good fit but Parish wanted him ( probably with an eye on a resale value ). How true, who knows.

Pino and Esse are two very different type of player. Pino very much more of a team player and less of a ball player. Pino is a grafter and looks like he's more tactically aware than Esse.

Ultimately I think both have been a disappointment. But Pino is the one that has had a big upheaval - moving to another country, another language and trying to cope with the demands of the Premier League.

My hope is that Pino benefits from the game time in the same way as Kamada did. And that we will see him progress too. For Esse, this is his chance to rediscover his confidence. Let's not forget that he's doing that in the level of football in which he made his name.

Pino is a Spanish international , a big name charlie if you like Esse is grafting his way up the slippery pole.

Pino is a right winger who was brought in to replace a left-sided player, so he had a good point. Also, in a press conference, Glasner did comment that Palace had looked to replace Eze on the cheap, without directly referencing Pino.

Different players often thrive under different managers. Esse might have done better under Roy (who liked nine grafters to allow for one or two mavericks), but JP was terrible under him. Players like Hughes and Mitchell have also thrived under OG. What he doesn't seem to have room for are players that are a bit more razzle dazzle and less predictable, which is a shame in a way as that has been part of the Palace DNA.

Ian Wright of course was not thrust straight into the top flight when he was given his debut. We were in the old 'Second Division' at that time. I believe he played about 150 games for us in this division before we got promoted.

Watched the game last night. He did well in the first half. However neither team would do well in the PL based on what I saw.

He is off to a good start and the Coventry fans have taken to him, but still only a Championship player (at this moment). Let's see how the rest of the season goes.

Lets be fair Pino and Kamada are very experienced international players.

Devenny's game isn't particularly expansive, so isn't likely to get caught out doing something silly.

IMO Esse just needs to work our where and when to try something, and when to do the sensible thing.

He does. He seems like someone who's played a lot of cage football and learned lots of tricks without gaining much game awareness. Let's hope he benefits from Lampard's knowledge and some playing time.

Pino, played on the left at Villarreal and was bought in to replace Eze who was a right footed player playing on the left and drifting inside.

Pino is also right footed, so not sure what your point is.

There is clearly some logic to his signing and his 'fit' into the formation we play. Clearly he hasn't got Eze's individual flair (who has?) and has been underwhelming of late and probably needs a rest/be dropped for a few games.
