Glasner Out

What's Glasner supposed to do?
He's told the day before he can't play Guehi.

He plays an injured JPM as Uche isn't good enough.

Lerma has to shift into the back 3 so there's no cover for Hughes and Wharton in midfield.

Clyne has been unfit and Devenny is again pushed into an out of position RWB role.
Imray (loan) and Riad(injury) have had little or no first team involvement and have to be thrust into the squad at the last minute.
We again have 2 keepers on the bench.

This after 14 years in the Premier League?

Glasner is not without fault, but to blame him exclusively for our current predicament is absurd.
The Summer signings were not good enough. That is a big part of the problem. We didn't get cover for Munoz which seemed essential, but then we didn't get cover for Mitchell for ages and when we did, he cost peanuts and rarely plays.
I sympathise with Glasner in that respect, but his public outbursts are unacceptable.
In the end our success was reliant on a small core of key players and when we lose some of those through injury etc, the squad is not strong enough to get results.

I don't really get the animosity towards OG. Surely he has a point? We've sold our best players, haven't brought in anywhere near good enough replacements, and barely have more than a competent starting 11 in the squad. This is after he's achieved heights we've never achieved before. I'd feel.pretty cheesed off about that. Am I wrong?
I think he has a point but you could also say I have some animosity toward him (whilst acknowledging he will remain a club legend). He can be cheesed off in private but what he did today was completely unprofessional and to the detriment of and with a lack of respect to my club (and the fans who will hear all of this on the way home). He can dress it up as protecting his players but I think it was poor leadership. It makes us less likely to get points at Chelsea, a less attractive proposition to potential signings and it was unnecessarily harsh on the players on the bench, some of whom he definitely should have brought on.

I’m not saying that the likes of Holding, Franca, Rak Sakyi, Edouard, Esse, Uche Imray and Sosa etc are necessarily great players but if Glasner’s (highly impressive) success is built upon trusting a select few, playing in a specific formation, hitting teams that attack us, his complete inflexibility to do anything else, with any other players has been a part of his downfall. He didn’t rotate at all, then rotated almost entirely and it hasn’t worked. Additionally, our defending for set pieces has got very little to do with our lack of signings, that’s on him and it has been a big part of our recent problems.

His comments are also somewhat contradictory as he has said before he wanted a small squad and it was partly his error, an that him leaving had nothing to do with Guehi’s sale.

Parish has faults but he has the best interests of the club at heart. Glasner does not, he is leaving the club, after tonight it cannot come soon enough, whether you blame Parish, Glasner or any combination of both. I’ve lost respect for him more than anything.

Interesting stream. Agree with early posts that Glasner best manager since Coppell. His impact on players quality was amazing .. look at Mateta and Hughes before and after OG. He seemed to cope well with depleted squad after sales and injuries..Look how long the unbeaten run carried on. But it was inevitable that thin squad would tire in December and will recover when players return.. Munios and
Sarr crucially but also Nketia. Suggest we ignore all this macho speak on this site..SP does not have to sack OG Now. We have two winnable home games in February and are more likely to get the points with OG and the returning players than with more turbulence. Will miss MG but still have three excellent centre backs ..let’s not self destruct before we have the points in the bag.
Let’s enjoy the end of the OG regime not sabotage it!

He’s just chucked a massive dummy spit and said he doesn’t care if his sacked in the middle of the transfer window while we’re negotiating with incoming players . WTF !!!

If that’s not unprofessional , I don’t know what is .

Fantastic memories , but now he needs to go before he tarnishes his legacy any further .

That’s what people are reacting to .

Totally agree with this.
I don't understand why he played a full squad at home vs Larnaca (and lost anyway...) when 3 days later we had Arsenal to play: it was only the 2nd game with still time to recover eventually and then played the academy for the last game vs KuPS when we knew a win would get us through and avoid having 2 more games to play. It really didn't make sense at all considering the thin squad we had.

I am feeling less goodwill today, as it seems that it is all just part of the Oliver Glasner show. I would put him on gardening leave and put Paddy in charge while we find a permanent replacement. Sacking him would be much too kind, I think. I expected him to leave at the end of his contract, but from what I can see he has been treading water for several months. No real excuse for all the issues with set pieces or recent results.
If he hadn't delivered us silverware I would agree 100%. Hes gone down the Amorin, Maresca, Brendan Rogers path of trying to get a pay off by bleating to the media in an effort to make his position untenable. Yes he hasn't been well backed and of course there is blame on both sides, but 99% know by now that the only loyalty in football these days is between the fan and his or her club.

The stupid contract system rewards failure and needs fixing. The danger of giving a manager a long contract, only to have to pay him off 6-18 months later is there for all to see. Maybe we should go for someone with a bit of love for Palace in his heart next time, even if he isn't maybe as tactically aware as Glasner was prior to the injuries. Either that or give someone a contract which rewards success higher but offers less for failure/toy throwing/exit engineering.

I don't think many on here are blaming him entirely.
I was not thrilled by yesterdays revelations in the press conference and was pleased with the first half today .The second half was awful .
He did nothing to try and change the game .
It's the post match interview that has pissed off a lot of people .
He should have just said ," we will analyse the game and train hard ""And to the fans ,players are returning so keep the faith "
Something along those lines .
Instead we get this whinge bag again banging on about recruitment
We don't have squillions to spend .
If you really are a top manager you roll with the punches .Stay professional and get on with it .
You are leaving anyway .
I did not think I would be writing this 8 hrs ago .I was a O G in

He's been a great manager but I don't see how he can stay.

The players he talks about didn't want to renew. Just like HE doesn't want to renew. He complains about the timing but hasn't he just announced, he's off, right in the middle of a transfer window.

His comments are extremely damaging. Setting players against the board. We were one big family last week.

He must know after comments like that, he'd be gone. And if he actually said, he doesn't care if he's sacked, then the sooner, the better for the club.

Having said all that. He's right recruitment has been poor..

Excellent point. In the middle of the window… and to the team 24 hours before the game. Maybe Parish agreed to that but it seems a terrible idea to me. The only benefit to anyone of announcing it then would be that he wouldn’t have to deal with questions about it, which clearly irritated him, anymore.

None of us are surprised that Guehi has left, that was the lesser news story and his non availability for a game isn’t the end of the world really. We won the cup with Lerma on for him at centre back. I’m more worried about the fact that our centre forward cannot score.

If he's still in charge Monday then its only because Parish has been on a bender and not realised he sold Guehi on eBay and that his manager basically told him he's a b@stard.

Somehow I feel quite calm about it all. This is the Palace way and at least this time we will have two trophies to tell us it wasn't all a dream.

What's Warnock up to? 😂

Yeah I can’t handle stable and boringly normal. 😆
